Personal Transformations
I'm my toughest critic. Always have been. I tend to think of myself as a finished product instead of a work in progress. It's taken me many years to deal with this issue. And sometimes it feels as if I've made little or no progress.
Perhaps Larry Dossey said it best in his book "Space, Time and Medicine". Dossey has observed that we humans have strange attitudes about ourselves. He's notice that many of us think of our body as having rock-like traits. When in fact our bodies are very porous and every changing.
And just like our bodies, everything else about us is constantly subject to change. Attitudes develop over time through outside input, books, teachers, friends, etc. Actions change based on the power of those inputs. Friends change, going in and out of our lives. Our children grow up. We grow older. The change is slow.
And then there are days when we stand at cross roads in our lives and get a good view of where we have been. Perhaps we can even see a bit of the road ahead. It's days like these that I've learned to enjoy. Times when I'm able to realize that I didn't know everything twenty years ago. I won't know everything ten, twenty or even thirty years from now. I like the idea that I am in constant motion.
My yesterdays have transformed me into the person I am today. My actions today will transform me and transport me into my tomorrows. I look forward to the journey. Perhaps, with a bit of patience and a bunch of work, I will enjoy the transformation.
That's all for now.......
