Jim's Pond - Exploring the Universe of Ideas
"Beware when the great God lets loose a thinker on this planet. Then all things are at risk. It is as when a conflagration has broken out in a great city, and no man knows what is safe, or where it will end." --Ralph Waldo Emerson

My Alternate Blog

Pete wrote a thoughtful piece regarding the down-side of blogging. I can really relate. He says, "I just want to write about how I think and feel about things." But knowing that his coworkers are reading is blogs changes things. I've had similar feelings.

It's difficult for me to write every day. And it's weird to think about the changing dynamics of writing to an audience. Considering who is reading and what they think does tend to alter the message.

That's why I decided several weeks ago to start an alternate blog. It's just for me. I don't publish it out to the world, although it is publicly accessible. I paid for it and I put anything into it that suits me. It's just for me. I don't anticipate an audience so the impact to my political psyche is minimal. Although it's almost impossible to total disregard my political filters.

It's a blog dedicated to things that strike me as absurd. The thoughts are my own. I don't take it too seriously. I like that.

Perhaps the greatest luxury is that I don't feel any pressure to post an entry every day. I don't even think about my private site every day, just whenever. It's fun, it's absurd and it's me. I've heard that some of my staff have started blogs without giving any notice. One individual has a password protected blog. Good for him.........
