You know you wanna!
Living the dream: OK, do you ever lay in bed dreaming of owning your own yarn store? Though I worked retail* for years to support my education habit and know the real deal--long hours, poor pay, psychotic customers--there's a 13-year-old adolescent inside of me screaming do it, do it, do it.
No, I'm not going to do it. But a girl can dream, can't she? If I did, though, it would be a sun-drenched space with burnished wood cubbies overflowing with yarn. A large table would beckon knitters to sit and chat a while. In the corner, a gorgeous young barista would prepare decadent coffee drinks, serving scones and pastry. Sample sweaters hanging in strategic parts of the store would inspire patrons to squeal with delight and hand over their credit cards. Solid basics like Brown Sheep and Cascade would share space with breathtaking handpaints and novelty yarns. Books and patterns would crowd each other on shevles. And, naturally, I would hold forth in chic outfits dispensing advice (and praying I didn't go broke).
What would you do?
Daily kudos: This rocks...the Rocky Mountain Progressive Network has distributed a fidelity pledge to all Colorado lawmakers who have publicly supported the Federal Marriage Amendment. The pledge requires signators to say they uphold fidelity in their own lives and in the institution of marriage as a whole.
Their press release stated: Now that conservatives have chosen to make other individuals' private relationships a public issue, citizens want to know that their conduct is consistent with their rhetoric, stated Michael Huttner, Executive Director of the Rocky Mountain Progressive Network.
The network will post the names of all who don't sign on their web site.
I love this country!
*Worked in men's underwear--no lie--at a major department store. We used to read the marketing copy on the wrappers and laugh until we were weak in the knees. "Extra venting," that used to slay us.
