Of men, guys and boys
Blogservation: In smurfing about your blogs, I've noticed many of you have "boys." You talk about "the boy" this, and "the boy" that. Back in the day, we called them "men." As in--were there any "men" at the party? Did you meet any new "men"? In pondering this generational difference, I must say, you've got it right.
I'd like to propose a more precise nomenclature. Again, back in the day, Lisa and I created a complex system for categorizing "dudes." A fellow can be a Man/Guy/Boy, a Guy/Boy, a Boy/Man, a Boy/Guy/Academic--the rarest of species, a Guy/Man/Pretty Boy, or any combination thereof. This provided us with hours of entertainment pleasure. Observe:
Mitch is a Guy/Man. No boy. George W. Bush--Boy/Guy (run, don't walk). Mel Gibson--Crazy Guy. Johnny Depp--Guy/Pretty Boy. Bill Gates--Man/Boy/Geek. Bill Clinton--Boy/Wonk.
Try it. Fun, huh?
