Collapse, Continued
The Bush-AWOL story continues its collapse today, as more ex-Guardsmen come forward to not only acknowledge Bush's service with them, but also to note his volunteering for combat service.
Not only did Bush serve in Alabama for his required drill time, but we also have confirmation that he volunteered to fly combat missions in Vietnam, but was refused, in a letter first noted by Hugh Hewitt:
According to Campenni, Bush inquired about participating in a volunteer program called Palace Alert that used Air National Guard pilots flying in the F-102 Delta Dagger interceptor jet in Vietnam.
The Air Guard advised Bush he did not have the desired 500 hours of flight time as a pilot to qualify for Palace Alert duty, and, in any event, the program was winding down and not accepting more volunteers.[Captain's Quarters]

Not gonna let it go.......
Bush's National Guard service is the most thoroughly investigated event since the Kennedy assassination. But the Democrats will accept only two possible conclusions to their baseless accusations: (1) Bush was "AWOL," or (2) the matter needs further investigation.
Thirty years ago, Bush was granted an honorable discharge from the National Guard –– which would seem to put the matter to rest. But liberals want proof that Bush actually deserved his honorable discharge. (Since when did the party of Bill Clinton, Ted Kennedy and Robert Byrd get so obsessed with honor?)

If the lefties won't let it rest then I won't let it rest. Bring it on asshats! CP
'Bush and I were lieutenants' George Bush and I were lieutenants and pilots in the 111th Fighter Interceptor Squadron (FIS), Texas Air National Guard (ANG) from 1970 to 1971. We had the same flight and squadron commanders (Maj. William Harris and Lt. Col. Jerry Killian, both now deceased). While we were not part of the same social circle outside the base, we were in the same fraternity of fighter pilots, and proudly wore the same squadron patch. It is quite frustrating to hear the daily cacophony from the left and Sen. John Kerry, Massachusetts Democrat, et al., about Lt. Bush escaping his military responsibilities by hiding in the Texas ANG. In the Air Guard during the Vietnam War, you were always subject to call-up, as many Air National Guardsmen are finding out today. If the 111th FIS and Lt. Bush did not go to Vietnam, blame President Johnson and Secretary of Defense Robert S. McNamara, not lowly Lt. Bush. They deliberately avoided use of the Guard and Reserves for domestic political calculations, knowing that a draftee only stirred up the concerns of one family, while a call-up got a whole community's attention.

Doubts Raised on Bush Accuser
Interviews conducted by The Boston Globe have cast serious doubts on the accusations made by Retired Lieutenant Colonel Bill Burkett, one of the central figures in the Bush/AWOL investigations. Individuals which Burkett had said were involved in "cover ups" or had knowledge of records being purged seem not to remember any of the situations he claims to remember. [American RealPolitik]

The Hippies have a candidate
These Democrats opposed the Vietnam War, and like Mr. Kerry, that event serves as sextant in their political journey. Primary Democrats regard their active and successful opposition to Vietnam as moral affirmation of their world view, which holds, more as a matter of belief than principle, that any American foreign policy not of their making is too aggressive, morally suspect and wholly wrong. Gnomedex 4 Officially Announced
They said Lockergnome couldn't do it again. However, we still went ahead and booked a casino in Lake Tahoe from September 30th to October 3rd for the fourth-annual Gnomedex tech conference. This time around, we set up a THREE DAY OPEN BAR - and pre-registration is still $99! How much alcohol can you down in 72 hours? Let's not forget about the whole "technology" thing, either. We'll still have plenty of information for you to download into your soaked little skull. That, and like every respectable host, we won't start activities at the butt crack of dawn. Details will continue to roll in, but I can already see that we'll (ONCE AGAIN) give other conventions a run for their money (and value) [C:PIRILLO.EXE]
I've bitched and cryed about Gnomedex always being back east for the last 3 years so I guess I better show up at Tahoe. If you've never been to Tahoe well then you've just never been! Perfect time of year also.
I want to see lots of bloggers there. We need some way to have a central clearing house so all the bloggers there will know about all the other bloggers there. Anyone up for that job? See you all at the bar! CP
