Report: Bush "Not Killed" in 'Nam

Austin, TX - In a shocking report that threatens to shake up the nascent 2000 presidential campaign, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday that Texas Governor George W. Bush "failed to die, or even sustain critical combat injuries" while a pilot for the Texas National Guard during the Vietnam War.

"After hundreds of interviews, we were unable to identify a single instance of then-airman Bush being shot down by the Viet Cong, or even fragged by his own men," said Serrano. "What's more, after returning to civilian life, Bush failed to go on a psychotic killing rampage, become a homeless drifter or even poignantly kill himself by swimming out to sea. This stands in stark contrast to the typical experience of most Vietnam veterans. At least in the movies I've seen."......... [Iowahawk]

But what about the Cow Tipping?

Bush scores again against whiny liberals crying "AWOL!"

By Jessica M. Walker, Gannett News Service
MONTGOMERY, Ala. Ñ As the first member of President Bush's Air National Guard unit came forward to say he recalled the Bush at an Alabama base, a Selma Republican leader who campaigned with Bush says she saw him in uniform on his way to drills in 1972.

Jean Sullivan volunteered with Bush on the unsuccessful Senate campaign of Winton Blount in fall 1972, and she says that even then she heard rumors and rumblings that Bush wasn't showing up for drills.

"Some people were saying that he never showed up there, but I know he did because I would see him with his (military uniform) on," Sullivan said. She said she could not remember who made the allegations but said they were men in Montgomery working for the Air National Guard. Sullivan said she called one of the accusers "and chewed him out" after hearing the allegation.

Bush was transferred from his Texas unit to the 187th Tactical Reconnaissance Group at Dannelly Air National Guard base here while working on the Blount campaign.

A retired Alabama Air National Guard officer said Friday that he remembers George Bush showing up for duty in Alabama in 1972, reading safety magazines and flight manuals in an office as he performed his weekend obligations.

"I saw him each drill period," retired Lt. Col. John "Bill" Calhoun said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press from Daytona Beach, Fla. (Related story: Ex-guardsman recalls Bush)

"He was very aggressive about doing his duty there. He never complained about it. ... He was very dedicated to what he was doing in the Guard. He showed up on time and he left at the end of the day."

Calhoun, whose name was supplied to the AP by a Republican close to Bush, is the first member of the 187th Tactical Reconnaissance Group to recall Bush distinctly at the Alabama base in the period of 1972-1973. He was the unit's flight safety officer. [Reality Hammer]

Ticket Gate

Comrade John Kerry, in response to reporters' questions about Bush's alleged "cow tipping," noted that "When I served on a dairy farm, I earned a white badge of courage, carried buckets of hot milk for my nation, and saved several bovine lives. Whether others drove around at night, on back country roads, with their LAZY, LYING, PRIVILEGED, COWARDLY, GOOD-FOR-NOTHING, Air National Guard buddies, and knocked over sleeping Holsteins, --- well, those are choices people made."  [The Politburo Diktat]

Well that's it for Bubya!  Kerry wins!  You guys ran a wholesome clean campaign based on the issues and won fair and square.  Now that the campaign is over Mr. Kerry could you answer the only question that went unanswered ..... did you really get some of that intern?  Wink wink nod nod.  CP

What does the gay lobby think it's doing?

I have two theories about this: Either the activists are politically tone-deaf and/or so isolated they don't see that they're harming their own cause, or b) they WANT the cause to fail to keep gays an isolated "oppressed" group for political reasons.

I imagine it's some of both, and I suggest that the saner members of the gay community might remember that Dr. King found dialog with white America far more productive than Malcolm's vitriol preached soley to blacks. [The Interocitor]

Washington Post Hits The Nail On The Head

Choice of Scandals

In the period when Bush was in the National Guard, Kerry was an angry Vietnam veteran protesting with Jane Fonda and accusing his comrades of being drug-addled rapists, torturers, mutilators and murderers committing war crimes on a scale surpassing the Japanese and the Nazis. But that's a mere detail. To the media, the contrast is simple: Kerry = war hero; Bush = something smaller, shiftier. Bill Clinton, of course, is smallest and shiftiest of the lot, but, back in '92, John Kerry stood shoulder to shoulder with his fellow Democrat and said, "We do not need to divide America over who served and how." Now, apparently, we do.

Me, I only have one question for the Democrats: How do you intend to win this war?

Actually, I must confess I have a second question, which has to be asked before that one: Do you intend to win this war?  [USS Clueless]

On the Media Mauling the Issues

I disagree that the reason this story seems overexposed is because we're not "interested"...I think that we're all very interested in any proof anyone has of Bush being AWOL or Kerry having an affair. Proof is not some schmuck making an accusation or some girl's father calling a candidate a scumbag. It is documented proof that Bush did NOT go to drill or statements directly from the woman in question as to the veracity of the claims. The he said, she said bullshit going on right now is tabloid crappola and will only serve to drive the public into ignoring the media on these issues. [American RealPolitik]

Democratic Realism

Charles Krauthammer's speech at the American Enterprise Institute defines what he calls "democratic realism", the foreign policy of the United States in the new unipolar world. What should we do with our unrivaled power?

This is a staggering new development in history, not seen since the fall of Rome. It is so new, so strange, that we have no idea how to deal with it. Our first reaction--the 1990s--was utter confusion. The next reaction was awe. When Paul Kennedy, who had once popularized the idea of American decline, saw what America did in the Afghan war--a display of fully mobilized, furiously concentrated unipolar power at a distance of 8,000 miles--he not only recanted, he stood in wonder: ?Nothing has ever existed like this disparity of power;? he wrote, ?nothing. . . . No other nation comes close. . . . Charlemagne?s empire was merely western European in its reach. The Roman empire stretched farther afield, but there was another great empire in Persia, and a larger one in China. There is, therefore, no comparison.?  [Wizblog]

A Christian's perspective on this mess.

Beyond the Yuck Factor

How will government-sanctioned homosexual marriage cause the downfall of American society as we know it? Who really knows if it will? Hey, it might not. Are you surprised reading that output from the keyboard of a professed Christian?

The way homosexual marriage is being implemented, however, is politically dangerous: judicially-mandated in Massachusetts and executively-mandated from the mayor’s office in San Francisco. This particular slippery slope is more frightening that a couple of old lesbians locking lips after tying the knot. Put a homosexual marriage bill before the good people of Massachusetts and they just might pass it. But we Californians said “no-way, José y Miguel” a few years back with Proposition 22.

Since when did a court/executive decision become equal to legislative action/the initiative process? And what law, palatable or not, will be forced into place next?

Put the decision before us and let us decide. [baldilocks]
