Points to Ponder

"When occasions present themselves, in which the interests of the people are at variance with their inclinations, it is the duty of the persons whom they have appointed to be the guardians of those interests, to withstand the temporary delusion, in order to give them time and opportunity for more cool and sedate reflection." --Alexander Hamilton, Federalist No. 71

"They say the world has become too complex for simple answers. They are wrong. There are no easy answers, but there are simple answers. We must have the courage to do what we know is morally right." --Ronald Reagan

Sanity, please call your office.

Brian writes another article on the topic of gay marriage, and while I try not to stand on a box and point when he does, the rarity of people with a degree of sanity writing on the topic from his perspective makes for a hard habit to break. So go read it. Brian is completely, totally correct...

Can we please acknowledge that opponents of gay marriage might, just might be motivated by something other than that ineffable Republican need to burn crosses on people's lawns?

State of the Union Address that I'd LOVE to hear....

I'm sure this has already been around the block, but got this in an email yesterday and thought I'd share it! In a perfect world this would be the state of the union address: My fellow Americans: As you all know, the defeat of Iraq's regime has been completed. Since congress does not want to spend any more money on this war, our mission in Iraq is complete. This morning I gave the order for a complete removal of all American forces from Iraq. This action will be complete within... [Right We Are!]

Another Argument Against Gun Registration.

Via Reader Mike G., I invite you to read this little story about gun control in California. Please remove throwable objects from immediate reach, first, because I take no responsibility for what may follow. Here's a taste:

On November 25, 2003 the California DOJ announced the seizure of a number of illegal "assault weapons" from a Laguna Niguel gun dealer. One of the guns on... [Kim du Toit]

"I want you to go to the window, open it, stick your head out and yell: 'I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore!'"

"You're beginning to believe the illusions we're spinning here, you're beginning to believe that the tube is reality and your own lives are unreal! You do! Why, whatever the tube tells you: you dress like the tube, you eat like the tube, you raise your children like the tube, you even think like the tube! This is mass madness, you maniacs! In God's name, you people are the real thing, WE are the illusion!"

Since at this point we can consider John Kerry the Democratic nominee, absent a bimbo eruption or scandalous revelation (hint: his Senate record won't be good enough to derail him), it's time to also consider what attracts the Democrats to... [Captain's Quarters]

Soldiers Record Lessons From Iraq

As the insurgency in the Sunni Triangle was heating up last fall, Lt. Col. Steve Russell was dealing with a new wave of attacks in which bombers were using the transmitters from radio-controlled toy cars: They would take the electronic guts of the cars, wrap them in C-4 plastic explosive and attach a blasting cap, then detonate them by remote control. Why I Left the Anti-War Right

If someone had told me a few months ago that I’d be writing a piece for Front Page on this theme, I would’ve dismissed him as a lunatic. After all, then I was supporting the positions expected from those on the so-called antiwar right. I was harshly critical of Israeli defense initiatives, more willing to talk up for Noam Chomsky than the sitting President, and insistent upon baiting “neo-conservative” Michael Ledeen of National Review into admitting that he sought to see the regime in Tehran overthrown by any means necessary, including US Military involvement. Who'll stop the hail?

Nissan demonstrated its new device designed to protect its parking lot from a hailstorm for WLBT News on Tuesday.  It is a cannon that sends sonic waves up to 50,000 feet in the air to keep hailstones from forming.

There are more than 400 such machines in operation in the world, and this is the ninth one installed in the United States. They are made in Canada and are used primarily to protect crops. It works by using its own radar to detect the conditions that are favorable for hail to form.

Reservist Choices - Stay In or Get Out
