Finally!

STATEMENT BY GOV. SCHWARZENEGGER ON SAME-SEX MARRIAGE

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger released the following statement today:

"I support all of California's existing laws that provide domestic partnership benefits and protections. However, Californians spoke on the issue of same-sex marriage when they overwhelmingly approved California's law that defines marriage as being between a man and a woman. I support that law and encourage San Francisco officials to obey that law. The courts should act quickly to resolve this matter."

Quote of the Day

By site regular "The Ugly American," in the comments to this post, in response to Andrew Sullivan's comparison of the recent San Francisco gay marriage spree to the civil rights struggle of the 1960s.

I have to laugh when my fellow misguided queers compare their "struggle" to the civil rights movement. Oh yes...drag queens, diesel dykes and circuit party... [Right-Thinking from the Left Coast]

The war isn't over, folks

If, for only a moment, we could melt away all the rhetoric about Bush's military service, failure to uncover stockpiles of WMD, and the hunt for Osama Bin Laden, and instead focus on the bigger picture of freedom's struggle in the Middle East and the future of our world, we would arrive at a very sobering conclusion. The tumultuous history of the human race has led us to where we now stand, on the verge of a historic moment, a moment that if seized to the fullest could give birth to unthinkable beauty, prosperity, freedom and peace. [democrats give conservatives indigestion]

and it won't be over until the enemy uses WMD against us.  That's what it will take to get the attention of the people of this country.  9/11?  Whats that? Once they do it the war can be over in a matter of days.  How long does it take the B2's to make the round trip?  Bring it on - lets get it over with!  I can't live forever.  I'm only hanging around till the BoSox win the series.  CP

 Civil Disobedience?

Question: Is there any difference between what Mayor Gavin Newsom is doing and what Judge Roy Moore did?

Answer: Yes. One is pursuing a liberal goal and will be hailed as a hero, while the other pursued a conservative goal and has been condemned to a lifetime of obloquy. [annika's journal]

Don't feel bad annika.  At least you are still young and have original thoughts.  When you get my age you will not be able to remember if you ever had an original thought.  CP

Misguided?

How about criminal?

First off, Andrew. Rosa Parks was not the Mayor of Montgomery, Alabama. Gavin Newsome IS the Mayor of San Francisco, California. And as Mayor of San Francisco he has the sworn legal duty to uphold the laws of the State of California. He DOES not get to pick and choose which laws will apply and will not apply in the city he is the chief executive of. California has a law on the books saying marriage in the State of California exists solely between one man and one woman, period. Newsome does not have the option of abrogating that law just because he feels it to be unfair. [Kevin's Mind]

Bush and the National Guard: Case Closed

During that period Bush's superiors gave him consistently high ratings as a pilot. "Lt. Bush is an exceptional fighter interceptor pilot and officer," wrote one in a 1972 evaluation. Another evaluation, in 1971, called Bush "an exceptionally fine young officer and pilot" who "continually flies intercept missions with the unit to increase his proficiency even further." And a third rating, in 1970, said Bush "clearly stands out as a top notch fighter interceptor pilot" and was also "a natural leader whom his contemporaries look to for leadership."

Case Closed?  Either Mr. York doesn't understand liberals at all or he is just trying to be funny.  It's just beginning.  CP

Retreat and Surrender

It would be easy to dismiss Kerry’s 1971 testimony as misguided, youthful confusion. But when one looks at his voting record on defense and national security issues, it becomes clear that his philosophy has not altered significantly in the three decades since he made that speech.

In the 1990s, when I was trying to help keep my enlisted men out of financial trouble, Kerry voted against military pay raises, cost of living adjustments, and family housing almost every time they came up. He has voted on numerous occasions to freeze defense spending, and actually pushed to cut the intelligence budget.

I’m not sure I can trust this man to be Commander-in-Chief.  [Citizen Smash - The Indepundit]

When you get tired of being told by the left that the situation in Iraq is a "quagmire" and that the people of that country don't appreciate their liberation from Saddam, go look at this picture and description of one Iraqi's feelings towards American servicemen and women. [Attaboy]

SOLAR FILAMENTS: There are no big sunspots on our star today, but there are some impressive dark filaments. Jack Newton of the Arizona Sky Village photographed them on Feb. 17th using a red H-alpha filter:

Filaments are vast magnetic tubes filled with glowing-hot gas. They look dark, however, because they are cooler than the surface of the sun below them. Sometimes, unpredictably, filaments collapse and explode. Such events are called Hyder flares, and one is possible in the days ahead. Thanks OD

Yeah right judge....we're all buyin into that.

What's so hard about being up front now days?  Why can't you just say that you have no intention of ruling against the gays but you saw a chance to delay it and you took it.  People would say "Well...at least that judge is honest."

It's obvious that most gays think that straights who don't agree with them are stupid.  I can live with that.  I think all people who don't agree with me are stupid.

Here's a news flash for you.....the thing that is going on in SF right now has done so much damage to your cause it will take years to recover.  Most people I talk to have up to this point really not cared much one way or the other about what happens with gay marriage.  They sure care now and its not in the gays favor.  I have not heard such disgust with the actions of a group of people in a long time.

In the past if I were to bring up the subject of gay marriage the general consensus was - sure - why not?  The reaction now is just the opposite.  Some of the words used by people to express their disgust would have the PC Police on it in a flash.

Gay Rights is back to the Dark Ages with the average Joe NASCAR in this country.  Nice work!  CP
