Cleaning the Truck

After lunch, I packed up all my truck stiff and headed to the tractor to put all of my stuff in it.

Some drivers like to toss everything in the truck and go.  I prefer to take a few hours and move into the truck so that I'm ready to roll at a later time/date.  Since this truck is not a condo (but a mid-roof), it doesn't have nearly the storage space available.  That means I'll need to downsize everything.  This is easier said than done!  Before I arrived, I got a grate and put boxed compartments in it so that I could have a lot of items right in the crate.  At the truck, I put the crate next to the passenger seat and strapped in tight to the passenger seat so that it wouldn't move around.  This route requires a 2 or 3-step ladder for packages packed high in the truck.  The only place to put this is behind the passenger seat.  I strapped that in with the passenger seat belt strapped in the back of the seat.  Then I fit everything I could in the remaining spaces.  There's not a lot of room left!  Truck companies could do a lot better in designing the interior of a truck with more storage space.

I "only" bumped my head on the roof umpteen times.  Since it's a mid-roof, the interior is just shy of 6-feet tall (I'm 6'3" tall).  That will take some getting use to.  Now that all my stuff is moved in, I've got a narrow path from the sleeper to the driver's seat to maneuver around.  I will definitely get some scraped shins along the way!

After that, I wiped the interior windows down along with the dashboard.  Then I wiped the outside windows, mirrors, and lights.  Finally I checked the tractor's tire pressure.  All good--although the tires were slightly over-inflated.  There's plenty of rubber left on the tires as well.  Monday morning, if I remember, I'll put some grease on the 5th wheel.  All you do is take some small packets filled with grease and place one on each end of the 5th wheel.  Then, as you're backing up, the weight of the trailer will burst them open and the result is a greased 5th wheel.  I also mounted the CB on the dash.  My other truck had it mounted higher (in the area above the windshield), but this truck has a mounting unit right on the dashboard.  Everything works.  However, I wasn't able to hear anyone and no one responded to my radio check request.  So it looks like I'll need to tweak that some more along the way.

Well all that's left is to wait for Monday morning and I'm off.  I'll start doing some preliminary trip planning later today or tomorrow.

miles driven = 0

PostScript: I cleaned my son's hermit crab cage after getting back home.  Those critters are fun and weird at the same time.  I did manage to get "Long Red" and "Elmo" to eat some banana out of my hand (at first they just tried to get away from me and mushed the banana I stuck them on.  But then, after their claws were full of banana, I turned them sort of on their back while holding them and they began to get the banana mush into their tiny mouths).  I don't think they are eating that much.  The temperature and humidity level is acceptable so I'm not sure why they don't seem to be eating anything (if they are it has to be the plastic foliage in the crabatorium since they don't touch the food we leave in there for them).  Perhaps, well have to start hand feeding 'em from now on.
