Chicago's early morning delivery went smoothly.
Back at the warehouse, Mr. J (day dispatch) informed me that I'd be helping deliver a load back down in Chicago, IL via Green Bay, WI for another one of the company's dedicated carrier accounts. Sweet--more miles!
Before heading off to Green Bay, I needed to pick up an empty trailer. The ones that I use for the dedicated account I'm with are custom designed. Therefore, I needed to find a regular van trailer. Easier said than done! I scoured the warehouse lot as well as asked two security guards for an empty trailer. None turned up.
So, I headed for a nearby city (30-minutes away) to pick up an empty trailer. I got the last good trailer there (two other ones had malfunctioning doors). After breathing a sigh of relief, I started the journey towards Green Bay. When I was nearly there, it hit me that I wouldn't have enough time to get the trailer down to its destination (I'd run out-of-hours between Milwaukee and the Wisconsin-Illinois border) because of the find-an-empty-trailer game. So I called Mr. J and informed him that he'd have to get someone else to relay the trailer from the warehouse in Milwaukee to the receiver's location in Chicago.
After arriving at the shipper in Green Bay, I dropped my empty trailer and hooked-up to the loaded trailer. In the process I noticed a rather humorous situation: one of the yard dogs had decided to see if he could plow through a rather large snow drift by the side of the building (must have been bored or something!). He didn't quite make it. Now he was hopelessly stuck. He rocked it back and forth the whole time I was hooking onto my trailer. When another yard-spotter passed him, I could make out the faint grin of amusement on his face at his buddy's predicament. For all I know, the poor guy is still there trying to get the tractor unstuck.
Once loaded, I headed home and arrived with about 30-minutes to spare before my hours expired for the day.
Later on in the evening I spoke with Mr. J (night dispatch) to see if I had been assigned a load for tomorrow. He said that if I hadn't been assigned anything by around 5:00 PM, that indicates either I hadn't been assigned anything or they had assigned a load to me but it hadn't gotten through the system yet. Since he didn't see any load assignment, I'll be calling in tomorrow morning to find out where I'll be heading for next.
