The Basic 5 Inexcusable Truck Driver Accidents After calling Mr. C in the morning, I found out that I was going to Minnesota. I arrived at the warehouse shortly after 7:00 AM and waited until 11:00 AM for my assigned trailer to be loaded (next time I'll ask what time the trailer may be loaded by before leaving the house!). The time waiting for the trailer passed quickly as drivers and office staff ribbed each other. It really is a fun office to be around.
I also watched a safety video that was about 20-minutes long. It was one of the best ones I've seen. It explained the 5 inexcusable accidents that truckers experience per accident/insurance records. They are (not in any order) 1. U-Turns (turning the truck around--it takes approximately 23-seconds to turn a truck around on a highway/street--automobiles can go right under the trailer and sheer their roof off) 2. Lane Changing (don't be a lane changer--stay in one lane to avoid other vehicles in blind spots) 3. Stopped on the side of a road (vehicles run into the back of the trailer) 4. Rollovers (going to fast in a turn--always watch posted speed limits and your speedometer) 5. Tailgating (following too closely to the vehicle ahead of you so that you can stop if they slow/stop suddenly)
Once the trailer was loaded, I headed towards the Minneapolis area and stopped at a truck stop at 6:00 PM. Driving was beautiful--sunny and no clouds.
Tomorrow, I'll deliver the freight and then turn around and head back for the warehouse where I'll have a load (supposedly) going to Western Wisconsin for a Friday delivery. If so, then my miles for the week should be approaching the 2,000 mark.
miles driven = 360
