This morning I journeyed to Green Bay, WI to pick-up a trailer bound for the Chicago area. After locating an empty trailer at the warehouse in Milwaukee (I actually found one!), I headed toward Green Bay. Around Oshkosh, WI as the dawn was breaking, something startled me as it hit my windshield. After replaying the video in my head a few times, I determined that a bat (not a bird) hit my windshield. The erratic flight pattern was the give-a-way. I never thought a bat would run into a vehicle because of their advanced radar-like detection system. However, I suppose it's no match for something moving around 65-MPH.
Arriving in Green Bay I discovered that my load wouldn't be ready for a while. So I headed for a truck stop and napped for 3-hours. I checked back in and the trailer was ready. Off I went to Chicago in sunny, 50-60 degree weather!
I dropped the trailer in Chicago. I was supposed to go back up to Green Bay, pick up another trailer, and take it to the same location I was at to end my day. However, upon calculating the driving hours I had left, there was no way I could do so. I'd run out of hours somewhere around Milwaukee. So dispatch told me to call it a day and return to the warehouse.
They also said I could get the tractor washed. The Blue Beacon truck wash location (Oak Creek, WI) did a great job washing the truck. There was a lot of grime that had accumulated over the weeks/months since it had been last washed.
Tomorrow I may be making the same Green Bay/Chicago run again. We'll see.
