'z Flat Today was one of those "flat" days. It all started when I checked the trailer tires this morning. I discovered that I had a flat tire. Since it was colder weather, the weight of the load wasn't all that much, and I only had an hour to go to my stop, it made sense to deliver the load and then deal with the flat tire. Afterwards, I spent over 2-hours at a truck stop waiting for the tire to be fixed. I was impressed in the way my company handled all the details in getting the tire fixed. However, there were a fair amount of truckers needing help before I arrived. So, I waited my turn like everyone else.
During the morning, Mr. J (day dispatch) sent me my pre-plan going to Minnesota. Then he changed it to Iowa. In addition, I'd take a load to Madison, WI and back before going to Iowa. However, the flat tire changed things a bit in that I wouldn't have time to run to Madison, come back to Milwaukee, and then make my first stop in Iowa by tomorrow morning's appointment time.
So, when I did return to the warehouse, the Madison load had already been re-assigned. However, Mr. J offered me another load to Minnesota. However, upon closer examination, there was no way I could legally get the load delivered on time. So, I was back on the Iowa load.
One thing I'm learning is not to get to attached to a pre-plan because it can and will change very quickly!
Tomorrow will be a full day of driving. I should get close to 600 miles which will help my average miles driven for the week. My goal is to make it back to Dubuque, IA (where I am staying tonight). That way, I'll be home mid-morning on Saturday.
miles driven = 345
