For some reason, I had the darndest time backing into the dock at the first stop this morning. It took me 3-attempts. Part of the problem was that I was using a trailer in the adjacent dock to line up my trailer to my dock. Later on, I noticed that the other trailer wasn't straight (perpendicular to the dock). No wonder it took me a while to back in!
Once unloaded, I headed towards the opposite side of Iowa. I arrived there early but they unloaded me anyway. Then I hightailed it back towards Wisconsin as far as I could before running-out-of-hours for the day. I made it back into Wisconsin before having to shut the rig down for the night. Oh, on the way towards my final Iowa stop, I passed an automobile on a 2-lane highway. It takes f-o-r-e-v-e-r to pass a car with a semi-tractor trailer truck. Word to the wise: only do this if you have plenty (and I mean plenty!) of lead time from oncoming traffic!
It was a long day, but a good driving day--both in terms of miles driven and the weather. It was a bit nippy outside, but the sun was out the entire day. A storm is headed over the Midwest for the weekend--I'm glad it decided to wait until I was home (however, on the other hand, there will be plenty of drivers who will fight with the elements when the snow flies). Monday morning I'll be driving in the remnants of the storm down to Chicago for a morning load.
Off to sleepy-land and then home tomorrow!
miles driven = 584
