"What kind of peace do I mean? What kind of peace do we seek? Not a Pax Americana enforced on the world by American weapons of war. Not the peace of the grave or the security of the slave. I am talking about genuine peace, the kind of peace that makes life on earth worth living, the kind that enables men and nations to grow and to hope and to build a better life for their children - not merely peace for Americans but peace for all men and women - not merely peace in our time but peace for all time." -- JFK

How about a "get Kissinger" campaign?

Just one symbolic victory of bringing an agent of evil to justice. What if the Democrats put it on the agenda? What if they fought it out? What if they had the cojones? What if they had the follow-through?

It's hard to imagine Tom "never-mind-the-unions" Daschle doing *anything* effective. I was rooting for him on Fatherland Security, but he caved. Can anybody even remember something he didn't cave on?

But what can you do without Democrats? City councils around the country are passing resolutions against the "Patriot" Act, and even instructing police not to cooperate with General Ashcroft's stormtroopers. (*That* was *news*, even if CNN ignored it.) Could City Councils start issueing arrest warrants for fugitives from justice such as Dr. Strangelove?

You gotta love it. One day the headlines are that the Treasury job is going to be a sales job -- someone to put a happy face on the Bush economy-wrecking agenda. The next day the headline is: "Snow" job. Who needs satire? What could you make up that would be better?

How about "Bush appoints Native American: Joeseph Lies-like-a-dog"? It's just not as good as "Snow".
