News - National Academy of Sciences says exercise a lot more, eat fewer sweets: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A39830-2002Sep5.html

Comment - NAS says we must get a hour of exercise a day. But a story yesterday in the Washington Post encourages women to get a half-hour of walking each day (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A38021-2002Sep4.html ). I guess if half and hour is good, an hour is even better. But some people may throw up their hands and say "forget it, I can't get an hour of exercise a day so I won't exercise at all." It's illogical, but that's human nature.

As for cutting down on sweets...how can I live without cherry pie or Jane's cinnamon rolls?

News: SBAM makes front page of Detroit News in health insurance story: http://www.detnews.com/2002/business/0209/06/a01-580130.htm

Comment: Linda Jolicoeur is a past SBAM board member. SBAM is mentioned specifically about half-way down. We're trying really hard to push legislative action on this issue. This article helps a lot.

News - Unexpected good economic news as national unemployment rate improves: http://www.detnews.com/2002/business/0209/06/business-580545.htm

Comment - Economists expect unemployment to increase in the months to come. But don't forget the good economic fundamentals we still have: low inflation and low interest rates. Much, much better than the early '80s when we had high inflation, high interest rates and high unemployment. And long term, businesses are still fearing labor shortages as workers in my baby-boom generation retire and leave the workforce.
