News - Food products from cloned livestock will reach the store shelves next
year:

Comment - I don't see a problem. The National Academy of Sciences says in a
recent report that fears about food safety are overblown. We would not
actually eat the cloned animals, only their offspring.
News - This seems like a familiar story: slow sales means retailers are
desperate to sell computers:

Comment - If you've got the cash, this is a great time to buy a computer. Of
course, you could say that's been true every month for about the last
year-and-a-half. The problem for computer companies is that people aren't
replacing their old machines. Why should they? The power of the newest
computers far exceeds the needs of 90% of the population. Unless you play
high-end computer games, most old computers are fine for their main use:
e-mail and surfing the Net over increasingly-common high speed connections.
For example, Jennifer uses an ancient 300 mz Compaq, but it works fine for
her Web surfing needs. She's not going to play Warcraft II anytime soon, so
why upgrade?
On the other hand, I may need a fast new machine so I can play the latest
version of Combat Mission (heh heh heh). But I'll just ask Brandon to
build me a Super Machine.
