News: Alexis writes a poem about 9-11.
Here it is -- and what a good job!
Never Say Die
The Sun rose to greet a beautiful day ,
Cooler than August and warmer than May.
The world was lit with a golden hue
And the skies of New York were a Robin's egg blue.
American citizens rose with the Sun,
All going to work, to get their jobs done.
On a bright, golden day at the start of Fall,
To two of the tallest skyscrapers of all.
Then an airplane came, like a silver bird of death.
Onlookers screamed or held their breath.
The fires of Hell showered down below,
But Bin Laden (and Satan) saw a fireworks show.
But before terrified spectators knew it was real
Another Death-Bird made of steel
Drove its hard, cruel beak into Tower2.
Terrorists had achieved what they came to do.
Brave men ran into the Towers to aid
Workers, and tell them to not be afraid.
But the Towers that once were so proud and tall
Collapsed, then there weren't any Towers at all
Twisted metal and broken glass,
Blood-spattered pavement, dust-like ash.
Revealed are the delicate doves of peace
In the whispering papers blown down the street.
That was the day that Hell cracked the Earth;
That was the day that Bin Laden shook with mirth.
The children, the innocents, would hear people say,
"Your Mom or Dad aren't coming home today."
For millions of relatives nationwide,
That was the day that part of them died.
Just when they heard about New York's trouble
They also learned loved ones were buried in rubble.
I'll tell Osama something he should have known then,
they were not soldiers, not armed men.
There were women and children in those Towers you cracked,
You killed civilians who couldn't fight back.
The sky is no longer a Robin's egg blue.
We're no longer innocent, fair of hue.
It comes with that feeling, when a great wrong is done,
That you are afraid at the rise of the Sun.
The Sun sinks into the September night.
The day's been a day of horror and fright.
This winter, the North Winds cruel breaths
Will echo cries of the ones who fell to their deaths.
Angels of Heaven, may comfort you bring,
And cover the victims with your wings.
United we stand, in our hearts we cry,
"God Bless America, Never Say Die."
