News - Interesting article about the Democratic gubernatorial candidate in New York and how he used his influence as state comptroller to "encourage" Verizon to give his daughter a job: http://www.nypost.com/news/regionalnews/58081.htm

Comment - He said his daughter's employment goal was "to obtain a position coordinating or directing special events and/or community relations." I guess she wanted a job like Samantha Jones on HBO's "Sex in the City", where you run around town looking great and spending lots of money without doing any observable labor.

Verizon gave the daughter a job, but later she was fired for using company credit cards to pay for $97,000 in personal expenses.

News - We all love great deals. Find some at http://www.bargainbliss.com/

Comment - I also like www.techbargains.com. I got a great, great deal on ink cartridges for my Epson.

News - This article reviews the new TV season: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/style/specials/falltelevision/

Comment - At a staff meeting this morning, people were talking about "ER" and "Survivor" and asked if I had watched them last night. I just looked at them blankly (blink blink).

Ouch! I'm really out of touch with what most people watch on TV. It's that darned TiVo recorder. It tapes our favorite shows (Whose Line, Sopranos, Home Movies) so we can watch them anytime we want. As a result, we watch no live TV, unless it's a football game, or maybe a little Home and Garden TV just before we fall asleep.
