Speaking of baseball, the Giants are getting their butts whipped by the Angels. It's the top of the 9th and the score is 10-4 Angels. Phil is happy.
Even though I'm rooting for the Angels, I am beyond amazed by Barry Bonds.

Charles' current project is way way way beyond cool. He is working on a web gallery for the official artist of Major League Baseball. The gallery will display a series of painting commemorating the top twenty five moments in baseball history. What an incredibly spiffy project!!!!!!

Several months ago, I made mention of a Moose "sauerbraten" recipe in one of my blog posts. What I didn't realize was how many people out there are on the look out for sauerbraten recipes in general and Moose sauerbraten recipes specifically. I get at least four or five Google hits a week for sauerbraten. So I decided that I had actually better get that recipe posted so that I don't keep disappointing all those folks.
Without further ado, here's Mom's recipe (Note: For Moose, we always doubled the spices (but not the vinegar) and marinated for the full five days):
2 cups vinegar
2 teaspoons salt
10 peppercorns
3 cloves
2 bay leaves
2 onions, chopped
2 carrots, sliced
4 to 6 pounds of beef (top round, breast, or other desired cut)
3 tablespoons butter
1 1/2 cups boiling water
1/2 pint sour cream
Combine in a saucepan the vinegar, salt, peppercorns, bay leaves, onions, and carrots and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and cool for 30 minutes. Place the beef in a bowl and pour the previous mixture over it.
Marinate for 3-5 days in the refrigerator, turning the meat several times. Baste occasionally.
Drain the meat, reserving the marinade, and dry with paper towels. Melt the butter in a heavy cast-iron pot or Dutch oven. Brown the meat on all sides, then add the marinade and the boiling water and cook over low heat for 3 hours, or until the meat is tender. Add the sour cream, stirring constantly, and simmer for 15 minutes.
Slice and serve with the gravy.
Potato pancakes are usually served with Sauerbraten. Note: we used spatzle instead of potato pancakes. Spatzle is a lot less hassle and is very good.

From the Onion:
Georgia School Board Bans 'Theory Of Math' COGDELL, GA-The Cogdell School Board banned the teaching of the controversial "Theory Of Math" in its schools Monday. "We are simply not confident of this mysterious process by which numbers turn, as if by magic, into other numbers," board member Gus Reese said. "Those mathematicians are free to believe 3 times 4 equals 12, but that dun [sic] give them the right to force it on our children." Under the new ruling, all math textbooks will carry a disclaimer noting that math is only one of many valid theories of number-manipulation.
The sad thing is, the above could easily be true.

I still feel pretty grim following Dad's death last week. Tired and numb is a good description. However, I am trying to slog through. At some point I suppose it gets better.
