Is the Wintel upgrade cycle broken? In my view it is. [...] To correct things, Microsoft needs to refocus its efforts. It needs to build and/or promote apps from ISVs (independent software vendors) that take advantage of excess cycles and storage (like web apps that run on the desktop and connect to data via Web Services and content via P2P). [John Robb's Radio Weblog] Read John Robb's entire post. Extending John's analysis, it's possible to blame the Entertainment Oligopoly for the pain the PC industry is feeling right now. P2P is an excellent example of the category of apps that (along with games) could have driven the Wintel upgrade cycle in the past year or two. The Entertainment Oligopoly has undoubtedly prevented ISVs from capitalizing on P2P opportunities (Big Broadband shares the blame, too). 3:58:21 PM   They Patented What?
