In A BIND Root server DoS attack slows net. Cache for questions [The Register]
I noticed this. It took me awhile to determine that it was a problem with my ISP's DNS rather than my gateway/router (which caches DNS). At the time, I wished I had a hosts file populated with my favorite domain names. This Register article mentions something similar -- Karl Auerbach's idea for an emergency "DNS in a Box" kit. It would be a CDROM with binaries and configuration settings to get a BIND server up and running in case of emergency. 5:08:20 PM
