Put up a teaser screenshot of JIRA 1.3 showing the ability to search full text (including wild cards!) and the new date filtering. Sexy stuff.

The Cityscape Project - damn cool! This guy has built a depth realistic sky scape of New York complete with lights - took him 5 months to build. I want one. [Slashdot]

Solving The World's Problems, One PC At A Time - So I can contribute my spare CPU cycles to possibly help cure cancer? That sounds like a worthwhile cause to me - every PC I own is now running it. I'd encourage you to download and do the same. (Much as I like searching for aliens, curing cancer seems more useful ;))

I have to worry about my friends when they send me movies like this. Still, it is damned funny.

Update: spoke to the guys at TheMindElectric today and it was confirmed that GLUE can't be included in OSWorkflow. Oh well, I'll write hooks in to it and then let the user download GLUE or use the included Apache Axis (not as bad a Apache SOAP, but still not as good as GLUE). I think this means that a 1.0 final release is around the corner. I also found a guy today that is writing a workflow engine, OBE. I introduced myself today and I think we're going to start sharing some ideas, as he's got quite a bit done himself. Very cool stuff though! [PSquad's Corner]

Doc Searls on OSX 10.1.5 "I'll try it, but meanwhile I just wish I could turn antialiasing off on pretty much everything. It might be smooth as silk, but it's also blurry as shit. Makes me feel like I've got cataracts." hahah too true.

Apple revs up retail store strategy. Apple Computer is planning to open an additional 18 stores as it considers new ways to woo Windows users to the Mac. Is the company learning from the mistakes of Gateway?
No - the company is just smart. Apple's are not utility boxes, they are lust purchases. Having bought my iBook from the Apple store in West Nyack, I can assure you that Apple stores are nothing like the clinical Gateway stores. Just as Apple products are a cut above the competition, so are their stores - don't believe me? Walk into one and be seduced.
(Now if only they'd fire all the jokers selling Apple's in Sydney) [CNET News.com]

The Netflix way. Will the success of the pioneering DVD-rental company convince a reluctant music industry to embrace its own subscription strategy? [Salon.com]

I found two new blogs today which both look interesting (both through referrer logs):
- rc3.org (Rafe Colburn) seems to talk about Java a little, and runs a mailing list called Javalanche (nice name) for people who develop web apps in Java - I do this so I've subscribed, we'll see what the discussion is like!
- rjsjr.org (Robert J Seymour Jr) is into all my favourite topics - Open Source, entrepreneurialism, Java, startups and more. I like the look of his blog too - very clean and elegant!
Both look cool and have RSS feeds - I'm a reader.
Quote of the day goes to Robert though, for echoing my feelings:
Why write a weblog or build website [sic]? Well, to be honest I'm not exactly sure either.

jGoodies.com: Metamorphosis is a short course about UI design and UI implementation that can help you understand and avoid common design errors of Swing based Java applications. More...
I fully recommend the course (it's more like a few GUIs that show you logical improvement steps) - it runs via webstart so you don't need to do anything. The introduction is also quite amazing for a 250k Swing app - looks like Flash.
The only thing I can't find is the source! "free cross platform quality code" is what the site advertises, perhaps I just missed the source link?
