Jakarta announced the launch of JXPath today - it's yet another object graph navigation language (the others being JSPTL expression language, WebWork and OGNL). One wonders how many we need! I suppose variety is the spice of life, but like ever - I get very frustrated by the wasted effort in the Open Source arena.
From the website: "The org.apache.commons.jxpath package defines a simple interpreter of an expression language called XPath. JXPath applies XPath expressions to graphs of objects of all kinds: JavaBeans, Maps, Servlet contexts, DOM etc, including mixtures thereof."

IBM unifies Eclipse tools. I won't use Eclipse because SWT doesn't work on OSX, and (more importantly) because IDEA is just plain better for programmer productivity - but it does look interesting. It's always good to have more options than less. [InfoWorld]

80211b News writes: John Markoff describes a quiet, inexpensive startup, Etherlinx, that plans to change the face of the final mile. Markoff details how two innovators a few doors down from Apple's historic garage are taking off-the-shelf Wi-Fi cards, installing their own firmware, and producing CPE (customer premises equipment) devices for less than $100. The dual-radio design allows them to run a long-distance high-bandwidth connection relayed to a local Wi-Fi network. What's unique about this product is that it's a single device and it's cheap. Naughty Pixel's AVGPA! - Uhm, I'm not quite sure how you describe this. The Amateur Video Game Porn Archive. It's basically screenshots from video games that look like porn poses. Quite amusing! [via AnothonyJHicks]

Performance problems. Rendering a weblog page at rollerweblogger.org (some sort of Sun box) seems 4-5 times slower than rendering that same page on my homebox (an AMD Athlon 1600 box running Windows XP). I wonder why that is. I wonder if I can improve this situation by using database connection pooling. If that does not help, I'm going to have to do some kind of page caching. 10 seconds to load a page is just not acceptible.
I'll have to tell David that I can solve his problems completely in 30 seconds using OSCache - this is what it's built for. [Blogging Roller]

(Re-)Released "Clickstream", a simple filter that tracks a user's progression through the site. Simple concept, but incredibly powerful. A lot of great ideas have been throw out and I'll start adding them in. Ars Digita has a clickstream component, which I think I'll "borrow" some ideas from. I like the idea of being able to detect time spent on each page, as well as where they go next. This, combined with tools like "SiteMesh", would allow for some pretty fancy dynamic interaction with users on your web site. One idea I liked was that of sending messages to users based upon their clickstream history (such as a sales promotion to a guy who spent a lot of time looking at a particular product). Pretty fancy stuff! [PSquad's Corner]
I wrote this ages ago to produce some pleasing reports for management (although I'm not sure we ever actually produced the reports - we sure got some nice data) - it's great to see it being resurrected!.

Jacuzzi Luxury Showers - Designer Showers: "An ideal union of luxury and convenience, the J-AllureÆ bathing system treats you to dual multi-function shower heads, 8 invigorating body sprays and soothing steam, as well as a full-size whirlpool bath with four PowerProÆ body jets and two lumbar jets. An electronic control panel enables you to fully customize your shower. The built-in stereo/CD system has four speakers, and an optional television monitor with remote control lets you enjoy the latest video or a favorite TV show." I've been saying my current shower head is a 'dribbler' for a while now - and I do some of my best thinking in the shower - perhaps I should get one of these?

Saw Spider-man tonight - I'm not sure if it was a great movie but it was certainly great entertainment. Very much reminded me of all the action films I loved as a kid. If I had to pick one disappointment, it would be the ending. Do they need to make the links to the sequel so obvious all the time?
