Without a net. I really like this idea of using unit tests as a safety net for development, so I guess I need to learn more about JUnit and the Extreme Programming ideas behind it. Up until now, Roller development was done without a net. [Blogging Roller]

Yep - JIRA is the first appliction we've built that has a full set of unit tests and I can't tell you how many times they've saved us. For example just yesterday I decided to update the OFBiz Entity Engine jar from CVS. Normally this would be a moment filled with trepidation - things might break, even badly - but will I know? Well you see having tests is great! I ran the testsuite (over 100 tests) and confirmed it - things broke, badly .

But now all I need to do is fix the tests one by one (hopefully in large numbers) until all run fine again - then I know I'm done with the upgrade.

IMHO XP has few good ideas - which have different degrees of practicality to implement in different circumstances. However unit testing and JUnit are one of those ideas that is always practical. I can't tell you how much better a few Open Source projects I know would be if they had a full test suite

Doc talked about two interesting things today - Shazam and Mark Cuban. This great quote applies ironically to both:

I agree. But the raw technology is a blast, even if the marketing is ballast.

Red Hat hears desktop Linux calling: Red Hat CEO: "We have two competitors. One's in Mountain View (Calif., where Sun has offices) and the other is in Redmond," Szulik said. "The road to Redmond is through Mountain View."

CQHost is still down.  They will not respond to trouble tickets or requests for status. [Blogging Roller]

I don't care how cheap they are - I don't see why David is staying with an ISP that seems to be so truly crap. Ditch 'em.
