Weather Report

It's snowing, hard, and threatening to turn into sleet and freezing rain. Luna and I had a great walk through downtown, but when I started hearing the precipitation clinking outside my office window I knew it was time to come home. Greensboro will now shut down for a while--24 hours if we get lucky, much longer if this turns into a classic North Carolina ice storm. The kids got out of school at 1:30 and will almost certainly miss tomorrow and maybe Friday--there is already an inch or so of snow on the ground, and even without ice that could paralyze a Southern city for a while. My deadline stands in any case, so I will be writing on my laptop by the fire, pausing only to think about those mutinous Shannon waves.

Reality Check

Carolina got thumped by Illinois. Weakness in the paint and their half-court offense were exposed, and poise was not regained after the Illini made their run. Meanwhile, Duke whipped Ohio State at the Greensboro Coliseum, where I paid $5 per Budweiser and saw my old friend Tim Warmath, who was in town from London. Tim works for AOL Europe; he did not concur with my analysis of AOL's new content strategy--"You guys are going to die."
