I hear the Kentucky Derby was exciting, but a million or so people in this part of North Carolina didn’t get a chance to see it – the local NBC affiliate cut away to tell us, again and again and again, that the weather outside was frightful. Ridiculous.

Speaking of horses, we spent much of the weekend at the Sedgefield Horse Show here in Greensboro, watching niece Claire and her pony, Beanie, win a fat fistful of ribbons, a couple of them blue.

Mo Cheeks was a class act when he was a Sixer, and he’s one now, too, reports Bill Lyon of the Philly Inquirer. “"I don't know why I did it,’ he said. ’It wasn't something I thought about. It's one of those things you just do.’

Except, of course, no one else thought to do it.”
