SHOT TO DEATH: Amar Briscoe, former UNLV
LAS VEGAS -- Associated Press reports former UNLV defensive back Amar Brisco was shot and killed in an argument with security guards outside a Las Vegas nightclub. The 24-year-old Brisco was shot about 3 a.m. Sunday after apparently arguing about a valet parking space. Three guards involved told police that Brisco drove his car into one of them, throwing him through the windshield.

CHARGES REJECTED: Damon Stoudamire, Portland Trail Blazers
OREGON CITY, Ore. -- Associated Press reports a judge rejected two arguments by prosecutors trying to justify a search of the home of Portland Trail Blazers guard Damon Stoudamire in which a large bag of marijuana was found. Judge John Lowe said Tuesday there was no legal justification for the search that turned up marijuana behind an attic access door in Stoudamire's home.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Associated Press reports Tony Stewart was fined $10,000 and put on probation for the rest of the year by NASCAR on Tuesday for punching a photographer after the Brickyard 400.

CONSPIRACY CHARGES: Bud Selig, MLB Commissioner
NEW YORK -- Associated Press reports a co-owner of the New York Mets accused baseball commissioner Bud Selig of conspiring with a former Arthur Andersen accountant to "manufacture phantom operating losses" in the sport's books. Nelson Doubleday, in papers filed Tuesday in federal court in New York, said the commissioner's office was "in cahoots" with Fred Wilpon, his co-owner, to put an artificially low value on the team. Wilpon is attempting to buy out Doubleday under the provisions of an agreement they made when they bought the team in 1986.

BESSEMER, Ala. -- Associated Press reports a judge dismissed bad check charges against former Alabama quarterback Brian Burgdorf on Monday after deciding he did not criminally intend to write the more than $15,000 in bad checks.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Associated Press reports former UCLA forward JaRon Rush pleaded guilty to drunken driving charges and was sentenced to probation Monday.
