NO SANCTIONS: Cedric Cobbs, Ken Hamlin, Arkansas
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Associated Press reports two high-profile Arkansas players who had run-ins with the law will not be suspended, Razorbacks coach Houston Nutt said Wednesday. Defensive back Ken Hamlin pleaded guilty last month to second-offense driving while intoxicated and was sentenced to 10 days in jail. Running back Cedric Cobbs was found guilty on July 11 of marijuana possession, driving while intoxicated and speeding, charges that stemmed from a Jan. 8 arrest.

BANNED: Brian Green, jockey
ALTOONA, Iowa -- Associated Press reports a jockey banned permanently from Prairie Meadows still wants to ride at the track and might seek a court order that would allow him to return, his attorney said Wednesday. A day earlier, Prairie Meadows barred Brian Green from ever riding at the track and banned another jockey, Rodger Smith, for the rest of the racing season after investigating complaints of racial harassment from a track worker.

LONDON -- Agence France-Presse reports Chelsea and England under-21 defender John Terry was cleared Thursday of charges stemming from a late-night brawl at a London nightclub. Terry was cleared on charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, unlawful wounding, possessing a bottle as an offensive weapon and affray.

TRIAL UPDATE: Georgia Gang Rape
ATHENS, Ga. -- Associated Press reports a former University of Georgia student testified she was raped by football player Brandon Williams in another athlete's dorm room earlier this year. During Williams' trial Wednesday, the 19-year-old woman testified that she had consensual sex with Georgia basketball guard Tony Cole in his room the night of Jan. 14. She said that after Cole went into the bathroom, Williams came out of the closet, half-naked and fondling himself.

OLYMPICS FIX UPDATE: Alimzhan Tokhtakhounov, reputed Russian mob boss
MILAN -- Reuters reports an Italian court is not due to meet until November to consider extraditing a Russian man accused of fixing figure skating events at the 2002 Winter Olympics, a source close to the court said Thursday. A U.S. grand jury charged Alimzhan Tokhtakhounov on five counts Wednesday, including conspiracy to commit bribery related to sporting contests.

GUILY PLEA: John W. Gordnick, Jayson Williams associate
FLEMINGTON, N.J. -- Associated Press reports a second man pleaded guilty Thursday to charges he helped cover up Jayson Williams role in the shooting death of a limousine driver and will testify against the former NBA star. John W. Gordnick pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence and will avoid prison time. He could have faced nearly 12 years in prison if convicted.

INDICTED: Alimzhan Tokhtakhounov, reputed Russian mob boss
NEW YORK -- Reuters reports a U.S. grand jury indicted a reputed Russian mobster on Wednesday for allegedly fixing 2002 Winter Olympic figure skating competitions in a move that paves the way for the U.S. government to seek his extradition from Italy.
