SURRENDERS: "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, wrestler

SAN ANTONIO -- Reuters reports "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, one of the best known characters in American professional wrestling, surrendered to law enforcement officials in Texas on Tuesday on a charge of beating his wife. He posted $5,000 bond and was released pending future legal action, said a spokesman for the Bexar County Sheriff's Department.

CHARGED: Raj Chhetri, soccer

LONDON -- The Daily Record reports an RAF corporal admitted yesterday that a naked game of football was the highlight of his team's drunken tour to Germany, but Engineer Raj Chhetri, 31, denies three charges of indecently assaulting a 26- year-old colleague, the only woman on the trip last September. Giving evidence at the third day of his court martial, he was accused of turning his RAF Buchan team's trip abroad into "one long drinking binge."

CONVICTED: Mike Poepping, former MLB

PIERZ, Minnesota -- Associated Press reports former Minnesota Twins player Mike Poepping spent four months in jail this spring and summer for watching and videotaping his stepdaughter through a two-way mirror in the bathroom over six years. The day after he got out of jail,  he was caught trying to get another glimpse of Sara Oldakowski's naked body. Poepping batted .135 in 14 games with Minnesota in 1975.

APPEAL: Stefano Garzelli

LAUSANNE, Switzerland -- Associated Press reports Italian cyclist Stefano Garzelli appealed his two-year ban for doping. Garzelli wants his entire suspension to be annulled, the Court of Arbitration for Sport said Friday. The court said it would schedule a hearing and issue its decision within four months. Garzelli was suspended last month by the Swiss Olympic Association after testing positive for a banned diuretic during the Giro d'Italia. Part of the ban was suspended, allowing Garzelli to start racing again in April 2003.

SETTLEMENT: Lowe's Motor Speedway

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Associated Press reports twelve people injured when a walkway at Lowe's Motor Speedway collapsed after a NASCAR race two years ago settled lawsuits against the speedway and the walkway's builder. A final agreement was reached Thursday morning, plaintiffs' lawyer Martin Brackett said. Terms of the settlement are confidential, but Brackett said some plaintiffs will receive lump-sum payments, while others will be paid over time.

ARRESTED: Bob Bratkowski, Cincinnati Bengals

GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- Associated Press reports Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski was arrested early Thursday on suspicion of driving under the influence of intoxicants, a team spokesman said. Bratkowski, in his second year as the team's offensive coordinator, was pulled over near the Bengals' training camp and spent several hours in the Scott County jail before returning to camp.

DISMISSED: DeShaun Williams, Syracuse University

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Daily Orange reports after being found not guilty of assault July 2 and having his interim suspension from Syracuse University lifted the next day, men's basketball player DeShaun Williams was dismissed from the university on July 24 for academic deficiencies.
