SETTLEMENT: Asi Faoa, UCLA
LOS ANGELES -- Associated Press reports UCLA defensive end Asi Faoa will pay $100,000 to a former student he punched at a fraternity party more than two years ago, but only if Faoa plays in the NFL within three years after completing his college eligibility. The financial settlement was reached Wednesday, before a civil trial was to begin in the Santa Monica division of Los Angeles County Superior Court.

SENTENCED: Nate Newton, former NFL
DALLAS -- Reuters reports former Dallas Cowboys offensive lineman Nate Newton was sentenced to 30 months in prison on Wednesday on federal drug trafficking charges. Newton, 40, a six-time Pro Bowl selection and anchor of offensive lines for three Super Bowl winning Cowboys teams, had pleaded guilty in April to conspiracy to distribute marijuana. He has been jailed since his arrest in December 2001.

WAIVES PRETRIAL HEARING: Marcetteaus McGee, University of Wisconsin
MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports Marcetteaus McGee, a University of Wisconsin basketball recruit who is facing sexual-assault charges, waived his right to a pretrial hearing Tuesday and will be arraigned within six weeks.

ADMISSION: Tee Martin, former NCAA football
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessean reports that despite several earlier denials, former Tennessee quarterback Tee Martin has admitted to UT Athletic Director Doug Dickey that he received some form of cash payments while playing for the Vols.
