I Really Unappreciate You

Perhaps with my post today you may conclude that I have inevitably fallen off my moral "high horse" but I shall post nonetheless. If you have read my previous posts, certainly you are aware that I attempt to view my world from a "positive perspective", but with a late afternoon email, my perspective may have become a bit skewed.Gold_Star_For_You  At my place of employment, we have recently acquired yet another "VP". And after only having been here a mere 20 days he felt compelled to fire out a company wide missive extolling the grand virtues of two particular employees. The adulation and fawning bestowed upon at least one of these, (one I know very well because I work with them) due to the fact that the "VP" had seen this person working late, one night, attempting to meet a deadline. Now I do not negate the fact that this person does indeed work diligently and ocassionally does remain after others have left for the day. But sometimes, appearances can be deceiving. And while it's very true that this person was attempting to meet the deadline, no one seemed to care that the deadline was nearly missed precisely BECAUSE of this persons inability to budget their time and energy. However, the "VP", on his late afternoon stroll through the building, simply saw what "appeared" to be...not was actually was! There seems to be a mentality that "appearance of reality" is more important than "true reality". Still, this was not what bothered me. But rather, the fact that this "VP",  in his rush to lavish praise upon two individuals, at the EXCLUSION of everyone else, simply implied nothing short of a "corporate slap in the face" to the remainder of the employees! There are MANY people which work in that facility, and many who do indeed deserve such accolades, but it takes a group effort to accomplish the goals. Perhaps in the future, this "VP" (or more likely, the next one) will choose to eulogize his praises and pass out his "gold stars"...a bit more evenly!

Today's Quote:

The chief misery of the decline of the faculties, and a main cause of the irritability that often goes with it, is evidently the isolation, the lack of customary appreciation and influence, which only the rarest tact and thoughtfulness on the part of others can alleviate.-Charles Horton Cooley
