Once Bitten
Today as I cruised through several blogs, I noted a common theme among many of them...one of betrayal. Stories of promises made...and promises broken. Some by so called "friends", some by acquaintances and even some by close family members. Surely some of these could be attributed to good intentions gone bad, but others were outright despicable actions. After these people had wronged the other, they then had the audacity to return to the scene of the crime begging forgiveness and laying forth yet another promise to never compromise the friendship by repeat performance. Nontheless, it happened again and again. That brought to mind something I was told by my father when I was but a youngster. He always told me, "It's OK to make a mistake...we all do...just don't make the SAME mistake again". In otherwords, learn from the experience and file it away as a great lesson. But it seems that some people are destined to be "bitten" again and again by certain individuals and rarely learn the lesson. Of course, I generally attempt to err on the side of forgiveness, for heaven knows I make my own share of mistakes...but when someone continues to "bite" and the sting is felt further and deeper,....there is only so much pain a person can stand and no ointment or salve can relieve the fangs of betrayal!
