The Winter Blahs. Suffering from a relapse of the winter blahs here in Arlington, where it's a balmy day in the 40s. I hate the wintertime. I hate the drearyness and the cold, the shortened days and the bundling up just to go to the store. I long for the warmth of late spring and early summer, the days when the sun shines warm on your shoulders as you walk down the street in a t-shirt and shorts. I long to sit outside at Four Courts and have a beer after work. I want to go on a bike ride without fear of frostbite. I want to go for a walk without my jacket. But alas, it's just February 2nd and the damn groundhog just saw his shadow. Can we just shoot the varmint, please? Who the hell asked him to predict the weather. Can it just be green again? I need the green. I hate the browns and the dark yellows of winter. I want the verdant green, and the smell of the flowers blooming, and all the colors of spring and summer. I want the weather in the 70s, a light breeze and a baseball game on the radio as I laze on the back porch, reading the sports page on a Saturday afternoon.
