Our Father, who 0wnz heaven, j00 r0ck!

Via Robert:
Our Father, who 0wnz heaven, j00 r0ck! May all 0ur base someday be belong to you! May j00 0wn earth just like j00 0wn heaven. Give us this day our warez, mp3z, and pr0n through a phat pipe. And cut us some slack when we act like n00b lamerz, just as we teach n00bz when they act lame on us. Please don't give us root access on some poor d00d'z box when we're too pissed off to think about what's right and wrong, and if you could keep the f3i off our backs, we'd appreciate it. For j00 0wn r00t on all our b0x3n 4ever and ever, 4m3n.

My empathic iPod...

my iPod, Eurydice, seems to be clairvoyant, or empathic or something. I've got about 500 songs in rotation on Eurydice, everything from The Wallflowers to Brahms' Deutches Requiem and some a capella music. It's a spread-spectrum. Yet, today, with the dial set to random songs, I've had as good a mix as if I'd programmed it myself.

Currently, it's dished up, in this order:
Brahms' Requiem, "Denn Alles Fleisch"
The Wallflowers, "Delivered" from Breach
Charlie Haden Quartet West with Chet Baker, "Everything Happens to Me" from Playing By Heart soundtrack
Counting Crows, "Miami" from Hard Candy
No Use For a Name, "Not Your Savior" from More Betterness!

It's suited my moods perfectly each time. Each trying to lull me into some relaxed state. It's really rather bizarre. Perhaps there's more to that random song engine than Apple's willing to let on.

It's really quite eerie.

A Moment of Devil's Advocacy

A recent article from the Austin Chronicle is beginning to circulate. While I don't necessarily agree that the parallels between Iraq and the USA are valid, I'm not sure why they aren't. I don't relish the idea of the suffering of innocents in Iraq, and yes, I can agree that there will be civilian casualties of significant numbers. Where do we draw the line? 100,000 innocents? 300,000? I don't know.

We've got powerful imagery on both sides here. Chemical weapons, biological agents, all capable of doing horrible horrible things. Hunger, starvation, blood in the streets, the horror is the same. War is not an easy thing. It's not a good thing. War isn't ever a "good" decision, but it can be a necessary one.

One last chance: Is This Necessary?

I am cold, and the wolves are after me.

Well, the snow has come here in Washington! We received about 7" last night, a frosty present from our usually fluffy white clouds. Apparently we had angered them in some way, they deluged us. Driving home from Blogorama III last night at the Rendezvous Lounge in Adams Morgan, we came back via the Roosevelt Bridge. From the DC end, you could not see Rosslyn, which was rather shocking. Rosslyn's pretty well lit at night, but no such joy. We came up Route 50, which has a rather dramatic view of Iwo Jima, and it was utterly incredible to see it in the snow last night. I may well go back tonight or tomorrow to take pictures.

One quick aside, Mr. Talley. Why on God's Green Earth do you own a gigantic truck with no four wheel drive? I mean, it's a nice truck and all that jazz, but I'd definitely have prefered my little Focus in the snow.
