More Technorants.

Thinking more about how we handle technology, I think I've realized part of the problem. Sitting at dinner tonight, there was this guy across from me. He understood part of technology. That's the biggest problem we have. We have too many people who don't grasp the large concepts at work here. Too many people treat their computers as black boxen, not knowing how what they're doing is actually working.

This bugs me. What bugs me more is that people don't want to learn. They're comfortable in their ignorance. I suppose I can go for a while being their lackey, helping them understand where I can, taking their cash in the meantime, but part of me wants to jump on their desk and ask them.. "Why are you ignorant of one thing that can really help your business?"

*sigh*

HAH!

Okay, so this is a personal issue of mine. I hate smoking. Like, more than a little. I love going out to bars, but I hate coming home smelling like I'd smoked a few packs. Apparently, Ireland is banning smoking in pubs. HAH! Lovin' it.

WANTED

Wanted: People who understand technology.

Must have:

  • years of experience explaining why technology is good
  • a firm understanding of the basics of the internet, WANs, LANs, markup languages
  • a firm desire to make technology a greater part of society
  • the will to tell people who have no clue about tech that they should shut up and learn it, then offer to show them the error of their ways
  • the ability to do infomancy
Good pluses:
  • understanding of more than one operating system platform
  • the ability to, during a powerpoint presentation, hurl your laptop out the window and explain your concepts using verbal imagery
  • the ability to retrieve said laptop and get it working again
  • can explain wifi to teachers using the analogy of recess and the jungle gym.
Don't bother if:
  • your primary computer is over a year old
  • your primary computer runs Win 98 or Mac OS 9.
  • you think of communications as something other people do while you lead, follow, jerk off, etc.

That is all. Applications are accepted below. Dumbasses need not apply, lest they be mocked, beaten, exiled to Paraguay, etc.

Local Wireless...

Capital Area Wireless Nets sounds like an intriguing group. Wonder if I should register my Airport with them...

Contribution

I've created the Spring Training Calendar for the Oakland A's this spring and made it into an iCal subscription. If you've got a Mac and are using iCal, and want to subscribe, you can do so here. It's also hosted on iCalShare.

Office Chemical Warfare

Okay, there oughtta be a rule somewhere in the office handbook of the world that you don't bathe in fragrance before coming to work. There ought to be a corrolary to that rule that if you have hand lotion that I smell you putting on from 25 feet away, you're either putting on too much, or engaging in Office Chemical Warfare.

The results of which may require a PsyOp in return. Bring on the punk music, iPod.

Tuesday Morning Linkery

Tuesday morning roundup...

...new iMacs from Apple, cheaper, faster, better. The whole 9 yards.

...jwz found some Psychedelic Republicans Trading Cards

...apparently Chirac's in some trouble (scroll down, last five paragraphs) at home. So apparently, it's also the large muslim immigrant population in France, not just their usual surrender-monkey tactics...(thanks InstaPundit!)

...I'd forgotten about Heinlein's quote: "Once you're in orbit, you're halfway to anywhere".

...Tech Central Station's James Pinkerton has an amazing commentary on why we need space exploration. It's about Freedom and Survival.

...While I seem to have misplaced my desire to smite people in fiery wrath this morning, there is some lingering crappiness that goes with having a stomach doing its own violent upheaval dance all the time. I am going to the doc on Wednesday night, so think some happy thoughts for me.
