On the campaign trail, many Greensboro issues are brought up by the varied people that I speak to. One issue is consistently at the top of everyone's list however: Baseball. Here is my position on the matter.
I will vote for the ordinance to ban stadiums in Greensboro’s Central Business District. Even though supporting such a draconian change in the City’s zoning ordinance is a bit distasteful even to me, it is necessary in my view. The public processes that brought us to this referendum has offered those in opposition to the current baseball stadium location no other real say in the decisions surrounding the stadium’s construction, nor much else concerning Greensboro’s future for that matter, so it is only natural to grasp at something… anything… that will insure that my voice will be heard.
That being said, once I am elected to the City Council, I am committed to implement the outcome of the referendum to the best of my ability. I, and hopefully others on the Council, should take the vote of the people as a mandate to either see that this stadium is constructed expeditiously or stopped altogether.
The crux of my opposition can be found in this linked essay. In these pages I recount what I consider to be the flawed process of Greensboro politics that has led us to the October 7th stadium referendum. Documented and linked to the best of my ability, I offer the view of a “naysayer” who was intimately involved in all aspects of how Greensboro arrived at this divisive point in our community’s life . I don’t expect to change any minds with my writing, but I do hope that the voters of Greensboro can at least appreciate my perspective…. More...., Lots More...
