Greensboro mayorial candidate Bruce Ashley thinks the best way for Greensboro to commemorate September 11th victims is by naming the proposed new baseball stadium after Sandy Bradshaw.  This is a change in his policy stance because his previous proposal was to rename the Council Chambers after Mrs. Bradshaw.  Before that he thought that the entire Melvin Municipal Building should bear her name.

He who would be mayor thinks that, "The Sandy Bradshaw Memorial Stadium will be a place where our community can come together."

Yeah... well... Let's not name our chickens before they hatch Bruce.

Ask Sherwin Williams to follow my proposed Economic Incentive Guidelines.  Then we will know that the deal is in our best interest.

Chief among many amazing things about this morning's revelation that the City of Greensboro is indeed managing the Greensboro Generals hockey team is the lax attitudes and dismissive comments from our elected officials.

Tom Phillips: "I don't have a problem with it,"

Mayor Holliday On Ice (Thanks Mr. Sun): "We knew there were going to be expenses, including salaries,"

Florence Gatten: "also said she supports the deal."

Don Vaughn: "It's the first I've heard of it... aren't they a private club?"

Robbie Perkins: "While it may seem at face value as inappropriate, it's something you have to do."

Where is the outrage?  I have talked to several City Council members, both sitting and past, about the workings of the City.  They all express frustration that they can't get all of the information that they need to make decisions from the City staff, but the Council is the body that is held accountable.  Why are they not pounding their collective fists on the diaz demanding to be completely included in and informed about such obviously controversial issues?

While this may very well turn out to be in the best interest of the taxpayers, it has yet to be proven... hell... it hasn't even been talked about publicly.  This is another example of Greensboro's "ready... FIRE... aim" approach to public policy.

I have never laughed so hard at a news article as I did reading the jokes that Judge Daisy has been circulating according to the N&R this morning.

I'll have to call my reporter friend and fellow Aycockian Margaret Moffett Banks and ask of her criteria for the jokes she chose to report.  Her delivery of the email jokes was especially good, complete with the definition of a Jewish American Princess.  Quotes from the story:

"One reads: "Short summary of every Jewish holiday: 'They tried to kill us, we won, let's eat.'"

And another:  On July 17, Daisy sent e-mail called "2003 University of Texas Football Scouting Report" to 19 people. It includes make-believe biographies on incoming players, including "Cletis Quinticious Jenkins," a running back "who has been clocked at 4.2 seconds in the 40-yard dash with a 19-inch TV under each arm."

They are very funny but the good judge will catch a little heat over this.  In the end I hope everyone agrees with Rabbi Guttman:  "If this is a growth experience for him, then the community should just drop it,"

We should all just lighten up a little bit.  I am as guilty as Judge Daisy for forwarding stereotypical jokes.  Some of my favorites are Irish , which I forward with the same zeal as Middle Eastern slams.  (I'm of Irish decent)  Guess I'll have to be more careful in the future.

New links added to "Where to Go"

If it has to do with professional sports in Greensboro, these folks are talking about it.  Unsure yet of their mission but here is Greensboring.com. No real content on the site, just the promise of things to come.
