I just couldn't resist!

There is an article this morning in the News & Record about the City of Greensboro entering the role of management of the Greensboro Generals hockey team. Such a development might seem to some as beyond the realm of possibility, but it is true.

I copied N&R reporter Matt Williams' article to a file and simply replaced a few words.  Go here for my parody of this morning's article, but is it really that far fetched?  Hopefully someone besides me is thinking five or 10 years down the road.

Editing Note 1:00p: Several folks have contacted me regarding this post, but chose not to comment publicly.  Their comments are mainly regarding the fact that the proposed new stadium will be privately owned unlike the Greensboro Coliseum.

While this is certainly true, there has been wide speculation about what would become of the new stadium if it became insolvent for any reason in the future.  Under such a scenario, there would be few entities, except for government, that would likely step forward as potential owners.  This speculation is fueled because a baseball stadium would be a massive, single-use facility in the heart of the city and it could be put to no other reasonable use other than a baseball stadium. i.e. It couldn't be transformed into a hotel, offices or condos.
