This morning's News & Record's (links n/a yet) editorial section was almost entirely devoted to the stadium debate. UNCG professor and N&R columnist Keith Debbage on the "against the ordinance" side and Aycock's own Dr. David Wharton (also a UNCG professor) on the "for the ordinance" side. Also reporter Mark Binker apparently took a break from being a new, first time Dad to put together one of the most balanced Q&A pieces on the issue that I can remember.
Tuesday night at 7:00p I will be participating in a baseball only forum sponsored by the Greensboro Jaycees at the Elliot Center on the UNCG campus. The ground rules for the event look fair but I fear that there will be a certain built in bias because the Jaycees endorsed the stadium project early in the process.
For the "Say No" side will be Greensboro Mayor Keith Holliday, head of the Greensboro Sports Commission Mark Bush and former City Councilman and head of the People for Positive Greensboro PAC Dick Grubar. Here is PPG's latest email update.
On the "Say Yes" side (confusion abounds) will be yous truly as well as Petitioner's Committee for Downtown Neighborhoods members Wayne White of Fisher Park and District 3 City Council candidate Ben Andrews from the Westerwood Neighborhood.
I am sure that the event will be well attended and they are expecting heavy media coverage but come on out and root for whatever you consider to be your home team.
I hope that the one thing that comes out of this debate is that in reality we are all on Greensboro's home team. All six of us are ardent Greensboro supporters, we simply disagree on this single issue.
