Dems Losing Hispanic Vote?
Oval Office 2008: "They may have just elected the first Hispanic mayor of Los Angeles in 133 years, but the Democratic Party is losing the longer-term battle for Hispanic voters nationwide, argues Republican political consultant Dan Schnur. The trend may have implications for the outcome of the 2008 election."
Oval Office 2008: "Hillary Clinton would be a formidable presidential candidate who should not be underestimated, says Republican National Committee chairman Ken Mehlman in an interview that the New York Senator will feel quite flattered by."

Guaranteed In-stream flows in Boulder Creek and Blue River
Vail Daily: "In a groundbreaking deal finalized last week, the nonprofit Colorado Water Trust spent $130,000 to buy 800 acre-feet of water from Howard (Scotty) and Jeanette Moser, owners of the Slate Creek Ranch. The water will be dedicated to meeting instream flow requirements in Boulder Creek and the Lower Blue, instead of being diverted for irrigation. Flows in Boulder Creek will now be significantly higher during the late summer and early fall."
There were reports of trout doing back flips in celebration of the heightened in-stream flows.
Fort Collins Coloradan: "To put it mildly, the Poudre River is in demand."

Social Security
Josh Marshall: "PollingReport.com has most of the relevant data available here. And as you can see pretty clearly, across the board support for private accounts is lower now than it was when President Bush got started on this last December. In fact, in most cases, back then private accounts had at least plurality support when the question was asked, just private accounts, yes or no, without noting the loss of guaranteed benefits that inevitably go with them."

Bolton
Josh Marshall: "Steve Clemons has some new details about what was contained in one of those John Bolton NSA intercepts. Apparently the intercept was of Asst. Secretary of State William Burns and turned on US dealing with Libya -- after Bolton himself had been dropped from the team dealing with the matter. This looks interesting."

Coleman or Mello or McCann for State Senate?
Colorado Pols: "State Representative Fran Coleman has decided to seek State Senator Dan Grossman's seat (SD-32) should Grossman run for Attorney General or decide against a re-election bid. Jennifer Mello, who ran unsuccessfully for a CU Regent at-large seat in 2004, has already declared her intentions for Grossman's seat, and former Denver District Attorney candidate Beth McCann had reportedly been flirting with the idea as well."

Dean Under Fire
TalkLeft: "Democrats need to remember that the enemy is not in here with us, it is outside the room. Dissing the Chair of the DNC is not the way for Dems to unify and take back the country."
Political Wire: "According to the latest National Journal Insiders Poll, the majority of of Republicans (70%) and Democrats (79%) believe Sen. Bill Frist's (R-TN) presidential prospects for 2008 have been damaged by his handling of recent events in the U.S. Senate."
Political Wire: "From Time magazine: 'Although John Edwards isn't officially running for office, he is already courting a key constituency for a possible presidential bid in '08: left-leaning bloggers. Not only did the former VP candidate spend the week guest-blogging on TPM Cafe, a new offshoot of the popular Talking Points Memo, but amid his postings on such issues as poverty and globalization, another blog disclosed that he had been the host of an off-the-record dinner with several bloggers at his house in Washington.'"

Weblogs in Government
Ed Cone notes that three members of the Greensborough, North Carolina city council are blogging their opposition to tax incentives for Wal-Mart. What a great way to get the word out, solicit feedback, and add transparency to government.
Is anyone on the Denver City Council listening?
