McCain or Huckabee or Clinton for President?
Oval Office 2008: "Arizona Senator John McCain will be in Michigan in September, his third trip to the crucial swing state this year, according to Detroit News columnist George Weeks. His last two visits were fundraisers for fellow Republicans - gathering "fund-raising IOUs" as the headline puts it, in this state which handed him a primary victory in 2000. September, however, will be different."
Political Wire: "Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-AR) has traveled to Washington three times in three weeks, and his 'heightened presence' in the nation's capitol, 'along with a new, trimmer look, has generated considerable buzz among politicos both in Arkansas and nationally that he is positioning himself for a presidential bid in 2008,' Roll Call reports."
Political Wire: "Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) 'is tapping into her husband's massive fund-raising network to build her own national organization in preparation for a possible 2008 White House bid,' the New York Post reports."
MyDD: "Last September, I wrote an article entitled Top Down Right-Wing Blogosphere Growing Powerful, that argued the anti-community nature of right-wing blogs was allowing them relatively greater message discipline than left wing blogs and a superior ability to influence the content of the national media." Thanks to the Daily Kos: for the link.
Western Democrat: "A big part of our discussions here at Western Democrat have been the question of culture, style, oratorical approach. Here's a question: Setting aside (for a moment) the 'Democrat' part of the equation... is there a Western style?"
Bull Moose: "As a minority party, Democrats need the language of persuasion more than the rhetoric of polarization. Fight, fight, fight is necessary. Convert, convert, convert is imperative."

Legal Guide for Bloggers
EFF: "Whether you're a newly minted blogger or a relative old-timer, you've been seeing more and more stories pop up every day about bloggers getting in trouble for what they post.
"Like all journalists and publishers, bloggers sometimes publish information that other people don't want published. You might, for example, publish something that someone considers defamatory, republish an AP news story that's under copyright, or write a lengthy piece detailing the alleged crimes of a candidate for public office.
"The difference between you and the reporter at your local newspaper is that in many cases, you may not have the benefit of training or resources to help you determine whether what you're doing is legal. And on top of that, sometimes knowing the law doesn't help - in many cases it was written for traditional journalists, and the courts haven't yet decided how it applies to bloggers.
"But here's the important part: None of this should stop you from blogging. Freedom of speech is the foundation of a functioning democracy, and Internet bullies shouldn't use the law to stifle legitimate free expression. That's why EFF created this guide, compiling a number of FAQs designed to help you understand your rights and, if necessary, defend your freedom."

Simpson on the State of the Union
Basie!: "Last night, I had the great opportunity of speaking with former Senator Alan Simpson (R-Wyoming), a moderate who often bucked his party on social issues. Simpson, the son of a one-term Republican Senator, served as Wyoming's Assistant Attorney General and Cody city attorney before being elected to the state House of Representatives in 1964. After 17 years in the chamber, Simpson was elected to the United States Senate in 1978. During his three terms in the Senate, Simpson served as Republican Whip and Chairman of the Committee on Veterans' Affairs."

Dems Message?
Here's a opinion piece from the Rocky Mountain News urging the Democratic party to articulate a consistent message [June 13, 2005, "Speakout: Democrats are tying only slipknots"]. From the article, "Recent national polling figures tell us support for Republicans nationwide is dropping. This is no surprise considering the volatile price of energy, ongoing economic jitters and the continued carnage in Iraq. What is surprising, however, is that not only are Democrats not benefiting from this apparent decline in GOP popularity, but also their numbers are dropping as fast, if not faster."
