Holtzman as Blogger?
Mt. Virtus: "Knowing he has to build widespread name recognition, credibility and enthusiasm through a string of media appearances, it looks like Holtzman is going about it the right way. Hitting all the nooks and crannies, bringing along a wide range of star power, and maybe best of all...he will be blogging. This kind of savvy activity should put Holtzman on the cutting edge. Potentially exciting stuff, really. I will do my best to stay on top of developments concerning Holtzman's impending Web site and look ahead with interest to reading the candidate's blog."

Bolton
Daily Kos: "An update on the Bolton nomination, via Steve Clemons and the Boston Globe. It looks like Bolton's nomination is now dead in the Senate, leaving President Bush with two options: step around the Senate with a 'recess appointment' over the very short July 4th recess, which would allow Bolton to hold the position until the end of the next Congress, 18 months from now -- or withdraw Bolton's nomination."

Allard for Senate?
Colorado Pols: "Senator Wayne Allard has made it known to colleagues, including Congressman Bob Beauprez, that he plans to run for re-election in 2008. We asked Senator Allard about his plans in last week's Q&A, to which he replied, 'I will not make any announcement about my future plans until 2007.' The announcement may not be coming until then, but the word is out."

The Rocky Mountain News is reporting that Tom Tancredo is blaming President Bush for a surge in illegal immigration [June 29, 2005, "Tancredo: Documents hidden"]. From the article, "Rep. Tom Tancredo is accusing the administration of trying to hide documents showing that President Bush sparked a surge in illegal immigration last year by proposing a guest-worker program. The documents, obtained by the public interest group Judicial Watch, show that immigrants crossing America's southern border in the weeks after the president's Jan. 7, 2004, announcement interpreted his proposal as a general amnesty, said Tancredo, a Republican and chairman of the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus. About 45 percent of illegal immigrans who were stopped at the border said they were trying to enter the U.S. because they would be given an opportunity to stay under the president's plan, the documents showed"

Stem Cell Primer
Here's an article from Wired explaining the science around stem cells. They write, "Stem-cell science is embedded in a quagmire of science, policy and ethics that can be daunting to sort out. But anyone can learn the basics with this Wired News crash course. And everyone should, because stem-cell research brings up issues like where your tax money goes, who you vote for, your family's health and even your most fundamental beliefs about what makes us human."

Here's a picture of Congressman Mark Udall answering questions on the Colorado Pols website. All candidates, and political office holders should have weblogs.

Oval Office 2008: "There are those, like Joe Biden, Mitt Romney, Russ Feingold and John McCain who are at least willing to admit that running for the White House is in their thoughts. And then there are those like Bill Frist who insist on pretending, all evidence to the contrary, that the idea has never even crossed their mind. It's an approach I find baffling because it is so obviously insincere. If you really weren't considering the possibility, then follow the example of Jeb Bush and Condoleezza Rice and say so. But if, as Associated Press reports, reprinted in the Myrtle Beach Sun News in South Carolina, you're on what's likely to be a campaign trip to a state known as 'the Republican Gateway to the South', at least own up to it."

Western Democrat: "Over at Donkey Rising, Ruy Texeira has a great discussion of the political shifts among the rapidly-growing Hispanic/Latino voter demographic - of obvious importance to the West."

Wi-Fi
Linux Pipeline: "Last month, TCP/IP pioneer Vint Cerf presented former Vice President Al Gore with a Webby Lifetime Achievement Award. The intention was to correct "one of recent history's most persistent political myths" and acknowledge then-Senator Gore's role in Internet development. Specifically, Gore recognized in the early 1980s that packet-switched data networks could bring great social and economic benefits.

"At the time, most politicians accepted the claims of AT&T, which (correctly) viewed any innovation as a threat. The monopoly's lobbyists had first prevented the Department of Defense from building its proposed nuke-proof network, then confined the nascent Internet to academia. History is now repeating itself, as the telecom industry once again tries to prevent the emergence of new technology--in this case, free Wi-Fi networks."

Tamarisk Coalition
All you water nuts will be tickled pink to know that there's a Tamarisk Coalition. Coyote Gulch coverage of the issue here, here and here. Here's a writeup about efforts to destroy the plant in Coyote Gulch. The canyon, not the weblog. From the article, "(Bill) Wolverton has lead Sierra Club Service Trips and Wilderness Volunteers on plant murdering sprees in the canyons, carrying pruning saws, loppers and sprayers in addition to their hiking gear."

Referendums C and D
Dick Armey and Governor Owens sparred over Referendum C last night, according to the Denver Post [June 29, 2005, "TABOR backer takes on Owens"]. From the article, "It was about 30 minutes of fairly amicable quarreling - a stark contrast to the sharper tone set by Armey and other small-government crusaders at a Capitol news conference they had called earlier in the day to kick off their opposition campaign. Armey, who now travels the country in support of conservative causes for a group called FreedomWorks, said he had come to Colorado to protect the Taxpayer's Bill of Rights."

"After Tuesday night's debate at the KBDI-Channel 12 studio, scheduled to be broadcast today at 9 p.m. and again Friday at 9:30 p.m., Owens said he does not take the criticisms personally."
