San Luis Valley Groundwater Problems?
Here's an article from the Pueblo Chieftain about the recent drought's effect on San Luis Valley groundwater. From the article, "The groundwater in the San Luis Valley may have dropped so low that it caused a break in the hydraulic divide separating the Closed Basin from the remainder of the valley, those attending a water symposium were told Monday." Third Party in 2008?
Political Wire: "Marshall Whitmann says current conditions might help a third party grow in time for the 2008 presidential election."
PoliticsNH.com "'I want to be very clear to the media in the back of the room. No I will not run for president in 2008,' Richardson said right before saying in Spanish to the Latino Summit audience: 'But, yes I am.' Richardson is the third Democrat to visit New Hampshire since last fall's election. Preceding him have been John Kerry and John Edwards. Richardson appeared to be largely joking with his comment in Spanish. In English, earlier in the day he said he was focusing on his re-election in New Mexico next year and after that 'we'll see. I am not ruling out anything.'" Thanks to Political Wire for the link.

A Multitude for Senate 32
Colorado Pols: "Earlier this week we discussed some of the jockeying taking place for State Senator Dan Grossman's seat, should he leave to run for attorney general. We can now add a few more names to the list. Josh Hanfling is indeed considering making a run, either as a Republican or an Independent, and former City Councilman Ted Hackworth is also being courted because he always ran well in Southwest Denver. Add those names to Jennifer Mello, Fran Coleman, and Beth McCann -- plus the possible entry of JW Postal, the DNC member who just moved into the district, as well as Mello's co-worker at the Bighorn Institute, Mark Cavanaugh."

Janice Rogers Brown - Confirmed
MSNBC: "Two years after President Bush first nominated her, the Senate voted 56-43 Wednesday to confirm Janice Rogers Brown as a judge on the court of appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. One Democrat - Sen. Ben Nelson of Nebraska - joined Republicans in voting for confirmation. Following Brown's confirmation, the Senate voted 67-32 to end a filibuster of former Alabama Attorney General William Pryor - the last of the three nominees whom seven Democrats agreed to clear in exchange for Republicans not banning the stalling tactic. A confirmation vote is set for Pryor on Thursday at 4 p.m." Thanks to TalkLeft for the link.

Internet Enabled Victory for Bush?
Political Wire: "Michael Cornfeld, a researcher who studied the impact of weblogs on politics, believes President Bush made the best use of the Internet in the 2004 presidential campaign, MediaPost reports. The Bush campaign 'used the Internet to find volunteers and then gave them information to spread -- via any medium at hand -- to friends and neighbors.'"
Bull Moose: "The Moose proclaims that the Swift Boat slime accusations should be put at the bottom of the right wing fever swamp from where it came...John Kerry was and is a war hero. He was the victim of a despicable GOP smear campaign on behalf of two men who took a pass when their country was engaged in a fight with the commies in a far off land."

Owens Signs HB 1177
Governor Owens signed HB 1177 yesterday, according to the Rocky Mountain News [June 8, 2005, "Water bill creates roundtables"]. From the article, "For Colorado's populous Front Range, it could bring development of water supplies as well as cooperation from the Western Slope and eastern plains, instead of the prevailing "not one more drop" approach from areas being pressed to give up water to expanding metro cities. For the Western Slope, which has 80 percent of the state's water but less than 20 percent of the population, it could bring compensation willingly agreed to instead of hammered out in court. And agriculture on the plains could be safeguarded if agreements for metro water use and proper compensation can be reached. The bill, sponsored by Sen. Jim Isgar, D-Hesperus, and Rep. Josh Penry, R-Grand Junction, among others, creates roundtables in each of Colorado's seven river basins as well as one each for the southern and northern Denver-metro areas."
Coyote Gulch coverage of the bill can be found here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here.
As predicted McPhee Reservoir should fill this week. It's been a few years since we've heard that news.
