News: Spider-Man movie sets records and spawns this great headline in The
Washington Post: "Spider-Man, a Creature Of Geek Mythology" --
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A37208-2002May5.html
Comment: Have not seen it yet and maybe I won't bother (Roger Ebert gives it
a lukewarm review:
http://www.suntimes.com/output/ebert1/wkp-news-spider03f.html
). But it's
an interesting marketing phenomenon. Its take has already topped $100
million. Perhaps better to not think of it as a movie but more like an
amusement park ride -- you go, get your thrills and forget about it.
News: Found a Web site for one of my favorite authors, Dan Simmons --
http://dansimmons.com/ds/index.html
Comment: Writes great across all kinds of genres -- sci fi, horror,
thrillers, detective. Read this interview of him on Salon.com and you'll be
impressed at how thoughtful and intelligent he comes across. Clearly not
just another hack sci fi scribbler:

News: Did Robert Blake really do it? Stephen J. Cannell, the writer-producer
and creator of "Baretta" (TV show in which Blake played Baretta) does not
think so --

Comment: Cannell makes a good case for Blake being too smart to have done
such a stupid and obvious crime. Well, that's why they take it to trial and
make the prosecution prove its case. Of course, in the media he's already
been tried and convicted.
