News: Exceptional clear skies last night in mid-Michigan enhance beauty of
Moon/Venus grouping --
http://www.space.com/spacewatch/planet_alignment_020513.html
Comment: Very, very nice. Cool contrast between the crescent Moon and nearby
Venus. From my front yard I used binoculars to also spot Comet Ikeya-Zhang
(http://www.space.com/spacewatch/ikeya_zhang_020426.html). About halfway up
in the northeast in Hercules. Little fuzzy oblong, no tail seen. Ordinarily,
light pollution would wipe out most objects in that part of the sky. But the
atmosphere last night seemed really transparent, i.e. free of dust and
humidity.
News: Washington Post hates Star Wars
(http://makeashorterlink.com/?M62B21FD) but USA Today likes it
(http://makeashorterlink.com/?D23B12FD)
Comment: Can these guys be writing about the same movie? It seems like the
last two Star Wars movies have produced more love-it or hate-it opinions
than any other movies I can remember. Maybe it depends on the cultural
baggage you bring to the show: if you don't care about Star Wars, and just
look at the movie like you would any other movie, it leaves you cold. But if
you are a Star Wars fanatic, this new movie is like getting a fresh bottle
of liquid nutrition for your IV drip. Who cares what's in it? It's nutrition
and it will keep you going until the next bottle (er, movie) comes along in
three years.
News: Study in UK says housework does not provide any exercise benefits --
http://www.newscientist.com/news/news.jsp?id=ns99992278
Comment: Woo hoo! Another excuse to ignore housework! This article says the
problem is that housework -- sweeping, doing dishes, laundry, etc -- does
not provide aerobic benefits (like brisk walking) or exercise our muscles
very much.
