Tonight, the Ski Boy and I were at a very special wine tasting dinner hosted by our friend Mary Langdon (Auntie to Trajan Langdon - Alaska is such a small town). The featured wines are, of all things - who knew they existed - sparkling red wines. Our sparklers are from Australia:
- Yalumba  1996 Barossa Sparkling Wine  "D Black 96 -4." A very surprising wine. I can't believe what a cab-shiraz sparkling wine tastes like - oak, tanin, somewhat sweet, and then fizz! A very well made wine.
 - Rumball (non-vinatage) Sparkling Shiraz. I like the Yalumba better. I don't think Shiraz stands up to sparkling as well as a Cab-Shiraz blend. I can taste Shiraz but it gets overpowered by the fizz.
 - Chandon (non-vintage) Pinot Shiraz. This puppy is very interesting - the grapes are very present - thick shiraz and pinot. This one may be my favorite. And, I didn't know that Chandon had Aussie properties. But as Mary's Mom, Thelma, stated, where there are grapes, there is Chandon.

We're all in agreement: Who knew that there was such a thing as Red Sparkling Wines?
Note: The Aussie wine web sites are waaaayyyyy better than the American and French web sites!

As mentioned below, the Ski Boy and I were at CompUSA this morning. After we returned our Wireless Bridge, Peter made the mistake (not just a mistake but a BIG mistake) of asking if CompUSA might have the Sony Clie PEG-NX70V - the Slat Rat's dream PDA. CompUSA did have one left and guess who walked out with it?! That's right, a very happy Slat Rat. What a great Valentine's Day present from the Ski Boy!
So my little Clie is upstairs charging up as I type. The dream PDA comes with following features:
- PalmOS 5.0.

- 802.11b wireless card slot (I need to order the card)

- A 310K pixel camera (how James Bond cool!)

- An MP3 player.

- A built-in keyboard.

- And it does video-clips.

I am sooooooooooo excited! I am such a geek! And the Ski Boy is the best Ski Boy in the whole wide world!

This morning, Peter and I were at CompUSA returning the now-no-longer-needed Wireless Bridge (we were going to use it for TiVo in conjunction with a USB-to-ethernet adapter and our wireless router but we solved our dial-up problems with the wireless modem jack instead).
Anyhoo, while the Ski Boy and I were in the Returns line, who should walk by but Dr. Wald (aka Dr L.). An Un-geek like Dr. L., should have a protective escort when they visit Uber-geek places like CompUSA. If they go in alone, they may not come alive.
Dr. Wald, by the way, here are some reviews and ratings of 3 megapixel digital cameras. That funny looking Fuji camera actually has a pretty decent rating. And here's what to look for when selecting a digital camera
