The Ski Boy and I spent a few hours this afternoon geocaching in downtown Seattle. We did three different caches - one in fabulous Pike Place Market and the other two were down on the water. It was a perfect day - sunny and 80 degrees - a tad hot but doable. Especially with the help of fresh squeezed lemonade from a street vendor.
Our first cache was Frecky's Architecture and Design Adventure. The Frecky's cache was an 86th birthday present to "Frecky" from his kids. Frecky is a notable architect and as his kids state in the cache description:
Dad was instrumental in helping to save this landmark [Pike Place Market], and subsequently designed the refurbishing of one big section.
Whatta a great birthday present!
This cache was a bit tricky. The cache is actually indoors - where GPS navigation goes kaput. So, initial outside coordinates were provided. And then a series of clues that lead you to the actual physical cache. Here are the clues:
1. G & F B Hoof.
2. “DOWN UNDER”.
3. “Right, Right, if you’re on the Right Track you’ll go Right”
4. Fork in the Road to ‘Red Hand’.
5. Descend to your Illumination!
The posted coordinates place one directly outside the main entrance into the market - right by the flying fish!
So what coud the first clue mean? G&F B Hoof? Well, there is a big ol' bronze pig standing in the Market's entrance. Then there a over a hundred little bronze pig hoof marks that wind their way through the front of the Market. The pig hoof marks are engraved with donor names. So, Peter and I, surrounded by mobs of people, walked slowly along looking for a hoof with "G&B F".
Voila!!!! Clue #1: G & F B Hoof.

Ah - Clue #2: “DOWN UNDER”.
The steps leading down to the next lowest level of Pike Street Market. "Down Under."
Clue #3: “Right, Right, if you’re on the Right Track you’ll go Right."
At the bottom of the first flight of stairs, you can either continue down or turn right and visit the shops on that level. Given that the clue made such a big deal about turning right, we decided to go to the right.

Clue #4: Fork in the Road to ‘Red Hand’
O.K. - in real life this Red Hand really is red neon. But my camera got totally bamboozled by the light.

.Clue #5. Descend to your Illumination!
Ah ha!!!! Illuminator2 - we struck the Motherlode!
Peter and I walked in, said hello to Misha and asked if there was a geocache on the premises. He smiled and directed us to the cache.
Eureka!

Aqua Cache is located on the same pier as the Seattle Aquarium. This little cache was a challenge. It took awhile before it dawned on us that there was a second story overlook with a spectacular view of Elliott Bay.
