One ends up doing the oddest things as a result of geocaching.
Yesterday, we picked up a travel bug from the Frecky's cache. The travel bug dog tag was attached to a trophy figurine of a guy doing a karate kick. Last night, when I went to log the travel bug's progress, I discovered the bug's name was Karate Man and he started his trek on April 8, 2004 in Angel Mounds Woods, Indiana
As I read on, I discovered that Karate Man had a very specific goal. He wanted to have his picture taken at the Bruce Lee gravesite in Seattle.
The Ski Boy and I had no idea that Bruce Lee was buried in Seattle! All at once, our little Karate Man travel bug became an awesome responsibility.
But just for grins, I googled "Bruce Lee's Grave Site" and lo and behold his grave was a short cab ride from downtown Seattle.
So, this morning the Ski Boy and I took a cab out to the cemetery. As it turns out, we were very fortunate. Our very nice cab driver frequently takes folks out to Bruce Lee's grave - he knew the exact location of the grave! What luck!!!
We tried to be very respectful - we carefully placed Karate Man on top of Bruce Lee's headstone and took several pictures. The gravesite was very elegant. Bruce's son, Brandon is also buried there.
We then headed back to town thinking that our little adventure was over. However, that was not the case. A few hours later as we wandered into the North Face store, I reached in my backpack for my glasses case. I wanted to change from my sunglasses to my regular glasses. But my glasses case, containing my $700 pair of glasses, was nowhere to be found. Augh!!!!
After much reconstruction, we decided that my glasses case must have fallen out in the backseat of our taxi. So, we trooped back up to the Four Season's Olympic where we originally caught our cab. I described our driver to the doorman and the doorman knew exactly who the driver was. Unfortunately, the driver had no radio or cell phone - we had no way to contact him. To make matters worse, we had to leave in an hour for the airport. sigh...
The doorman told us he'd keep an eye out for the cab - evidently the driver had just been there and this was his home spot. Hopefully he'd be back soon. The Ski Boy and I killed an hour and then went back to the Olympic. No luck yet. So, we decided to wait for a few minutes more. And just as we were about to bag it, our guy drove up!!!
I ran up to him and explained what had happened. He was quite concerned and immediately opened the door and I dove in. After much frantic rumaging - Eureka! I found my glasses case way under the drivers seat - it had gotten smooshed forward. No wonder I never saw it!!!
Big Time Whew!
All's Well That Ends Well!
Here's the money shot - Karate Man on top of Bruce Lee's headstone.
