Well, finally, some good political news. James Carville and two other Clinton politicos are joining the Kerry campaign. I've been pining for Carville for the past month. The Kerry campaign needs his kind of witty laser focus.

Wednesday evening, I leave for a ten day trip to Seattle and Walnut Creek/San Francisco. The ten day forecasts for those three cities are diametrically opposed - Seattle will be chilly, wet, and rainy. Walnut Creek will be extremely hot, sunny, and dry. San Francisco will be somewhere in between. Gads.
Packing for those weather extremes will be quite a challenge. And I'm already really challenged when it comes to traveling light. My motto is, "Why pack light when you can bring everything you own?"

My brother Leland and his satellite up-link truck were on the scene this weekend for Hurricane Frances. And as usual, he took several pictures and provided commentary. So, without further ado, here's Leland:
Good Morning Campers!!!
We spent some of this holiday weekend in a forth floor, hot and steamy beachfront condo deprived of electricity, air conditioning and cold beer. It was great fun eating soggy sandwiches, wearing nothing but wet clothing and filling the tub with water so we could flush the john if the municipal water supply went down.

During the worst part of the storm, we retreated from the trucks and live shot positions to the safety of our condo, located in a concrete and steal building. Mother Nature used her winds to provide us with this really nice indoor fountain at the sliding glass doors. The sound of trickling water was very relaxing in a Zen like way. At least it was when you could hear it over the roar of the wind. There's still an indoor pond extending from the living room into the kitchen. If it's still there after I'm finished today, I'm going to have it stocked and go fishing.

Frances Blows! This picture doesn't do the scene justice. Because it is a still photograph, you cannot see that the rain is traveling in sheets from left to right with a stinging velocity.

The Weather Channel did a few shots out of our truck as well. This was from Saturday afternoon while Frances was still warming up.
